But I was in Central Station first thing that morning and the place was heaving with pissed Rangers fans heading south. This was at 8.00 a.m. There were plenty of Scots down there - hoping for a good day out. But, loads of pissed blokes getting pissed off is a combination that produces serious trouble. I guess 76 was different in that regard - loads of people will gave headed to Birmingham with the intent of causing trouble.

In all seriousness Bolton in the late 70s was nuts absolute mayhem and Bolton 90 was pure street violence,im told by older mates Bolton in the cup around 74 was also mental. Throw in Wolves the waddo game and Cardiff away late 70s for street agro on Sloper Road and under the bridge post match. Also Man city at home when our lads had a habit of going in the Stoke end seats 80s ,serious violence 50 on 50 in the alleys behind the Stoke End ten minutes before end of game. Oldham away late 70s hell up on there end and a risky away end assault at Brums paddock and Villas seats resulted in hand to hand stuff 80s. The Brum riot wass moody to say the least inside and out and a absolute didaster of a trip to West ham around 1980 )Gulp) Kev you are correct I was at the Bolton game Fa Cup 3rd round 74, I was only 12 at the time Sunday game if memory serves me right, some games were allowed to be played on a Sunday due to all the strikes and unrest in the work place at that time despite plenty of church protest. The end we were in back off one of the goals it was running battles at the back of the stand the whole game there were police and dogs trying to keep the fans apart but they had no effect whatsoever. I went with my dad and his mates but I stood on my own pitch side so I could see the game better, half a dozen young Bolton fans decided to give me shit as I was on my own I put up with it and give it back but it was only verbals then, until 1 of them pinched me Stoke hat off me head and threw it on the pitch and I lost it with them, it took a few adults to part us and one of them got an official to get me hat back so I would calm down, they never expected my reaction but neither did I, funny looking back on it but the atmosphere at the time was frightening.

I recall that after the notorious offside peanut seller FA Cup semi final replay at Goodison against Arsenal there was a lot of trouble with Liverpool and Everton fans out on the hunt after the match. Lots of windows put through on our busses and I remember one poor Stokie took a right beating in a cemetery nearby

The 15-20 minutes under the concourse at Wigan in 2000 are certainly up there.

I remember West Ham fans at the Brit trying to climb over the seats to the Stoke Fans.
I also remember against Middlesbrough at the Brit, the season they went down, they were causing some trouble after the game, climbing up the gates that seperated Stoke Fans and Boro fans, chanting "You'll never take the boro" My mate who supports Middlesbrough also said they were all fighting each other. Pretty embarrasing.

VFB Leipzig v Dynamo Dresden - 1999
3000 crowd, 300 arrests
cars getting flipped left right and centre
Nazis, everyfuckingwhere.
terrifying, i'd only been in Leipzig a week, didn't bother going to VFB (aka Lok) again. Followed Chemie instead, which wasn't much better, but at least there wasn't anybody openly sporting swastika tattoo's on their heads.

So many incidents, so little space...... Mid seventies and eighties almost weekly. One that really stands out was Spurs at home around 1978. It went mental after the game right outside Stoke polices station above all places! Best place for it. Twats were busy inside playing Snooker and Poker.

Gillingham vs Preston. They were both vying for the top spot. Preston fans were locked out and so decided to hit any Gills fan they could see-unfortunately they walked down the side of the ground that had home fans in it,thus being bombarded with missiles. A very big Preston fan decided to give it large at that point-which meant the Police set their dog's on him. Which I was very glad about as he was just coming into my vicinity.

As some have said.....most games in the 70's 80's 90's.
Mind you, as for the worst ever.....It surely has to involve the Knave of Hearts somewhere.

The Birmingham FA Cup home tie a few years ago was a bit tasty after the match, a shower of bricks and beer on the ways to the power league, fences ripped downs and a fair few standoffs, worst I've seen at the Brit for me !

I was at the Villa v Rangers game. Loads of us from Biddulph where there supporting Rangers. It was a total invasion by the men from the north. Rangers fans filled the Holte End. Never heard or seen any Villa supporters pre-match. The game was rubbish, Villa where the better team by a long way. The score was the least important thing on my mind. I and many other fans spent most of the game facing away from the pitch. This was due to the so called Rangers fans who did nothing but throw bottles at the police and on to the pitch. Hundreds and hundreds of bottles raining down from up on high. Broken glass was being showered on to Rangers fans that where stood on the lower half of the Holte End. God only knows how many Rangers got injured that day. It was one of the worst acts of hooliganism ever experienced. Since then I have watched Rangers many times and I have never seen anything like it since, and I never want to see those scenes again.

How do we think it would go down if we had a pre-season game against Celtic or Rangers??
Friendly or carnage??

It will not happen now we have left a bad taste in the Rangers fans mouths when we "stole" Ness from them. I went to a Celtic v Leeds "challenge" match years a go at Parkhead, I think it was Jimmy Floyd Petroltanks last game for Leeds. Celtic 1- 2 Leeds. Leeds/English where not made welcome there. I hope to go to Rangers v Sheff Wednesday soon. I will give my update then. English Rangers fans are made very welcome at Ibrox or any other Rangers game in Scotland, but Rangers against any English opposition is a very different matter

Since then I have watched Rangers many times and I have never seen anything like it since, and I never want to see those scenes again. i can honestly say i have NEVER seen so many drunks in one place in my entire life, there were literally thousands of them drunk to the extent that they could not stand up let alone speak,i went with my mates , we got off the train at Aston and it was like running the gauntlet from the station to the ground, tried to get onto the Holte via Trinity Rd turnstiles, got in only to come up behind the few Villa that went in being forced onto the track and taken down the Witton, some fucking friendly, they reckon there was about 17,000 at the game of which around 11,000 were rangers, when the second goal went in that was it ,from the back of the Witton you could see them all coming down from the top of The Holte to get on the pitch for one reason and one reason only to bash us, not a nice sight and one i hope i never see at VP again, was i worried ? too fucking right i was and if they are being honest so was everyone else in that end, they(the police) eventually stopped them somewhere near the edge of the Witton end 18yd box, we got kept in for a bit and when the gates opened i cant recall seeing anyone turn right towards the Holte and the hordes coming out of it ! Got down to Witton island and saw some of the Steamers trying to rally people to make a stand we stopped for a bit but to be honest it was futile as the numbers stacked against Villa were ridiculous , we then walked into town and just moped around as there were no pubs open and just police and drunken rangers all over town, later on when the police had thinned out and small groups of villa mobbed up it became a mass turkey shoot with a lot of jocks receiving the brunt of our frustrations and anger that they had done what they did, held the entire Holte, abused and attacked anyone in claret and Blue including kids, women and oldies, smashed up VP and the surrounding area proper ,a day no Villa fan's present will ever forget

England v Greece 2001 Not Greece fans, but England fans beating the shit out of each other all over Manchester (including a big mob from Stoke who set the Sawyers Arms on fire having been locked in by the Police) We were offered on by Stokies - had to show my crest tattoo (I had hoped my accent gave it away...)! Police were obviously aware of the trouble coming, there were armed Police at Piccadiliy (at 8.30am when we arrived!) and we were questioned and spoken to like shit - we found a quiet bar where we stayed until about 1.30pm and met friends Were big gangs of maurading crews from the Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs (large and small, some working together others kicking the crap out of each other), Midlands lot from Brum/Forest/Leicester as well as the usual Millwall/WHU lot - was honestly scary walking from Manc City Centre to the ground along Mancunian Way (trams were packed) We had a group of about 15 of us, 5 Stokies and some mates from Manchester who all supported different clubs - we had planned a good drink and stuff around town after the game, but made a sensible decision to get gone back to Stoke and had drinks there instead! Apart from that, obv Birmingham away (1991?) wasnt great but at least it was contained in the ground mainly (I was a weedy 17 year old and cacking myself!), and got twatted at Burnley away 2 years later walking from the town to the ground as hoardes of Burnley just seemed to come from nowhere and battered anything that moved. As a teen we used to follow the 'boys' around Stoke after a game, I wouldnt have liked to have been an away fan trying to get out of Stoke after a game (esp a defeat) - it seemed to go off most weeks back then (late 80s/early 90s) in the lower leagues. The sight of the Police marching a few thousand fans past St Peters and up to the train station like they were herding cattle is something you cant explain to people now! (and the goading from across the street by the Glebe etc - and the odd breakaway hoolie who would run across the busy road to throw a punch - nutters!) :-) On the flip, Beckhams free kick last second improved the mood somewhat! Stoke ran the show that day. I particularly remember Burnley getting a hiding from Stoke and some manure fans coming a cropper

Plenty from the 70s . Too many to remember them all.
The large scale violence wasn't always the worse. I can recall a fair few encounters with 10-15 a side that were quite vicious and nasty. Millwall away in about 93 , Wigan away in about 98 and more recently Everton at home about 5 years ago when they got twatted all over newcastle after turning up in a coach calling it on with the Stoke youth

staffs villa, taking about seeing so many pissed Jocks. I was in the Scotland end for their famous victory against England at Wembley in 1976 (I think - my brain is never very good with dates). Pej played & got torn a new one. Just remember bottles & bottles of scotch being passed around & rivers of piss. Then the pitch invasion, pulling down the goalposts & digging up the pitch
