An increased capacity will increase supporter base as it will increase opportunities for a greater number of people to get a ticket and attend a match. How many posters on here are season ticket holders or match attenders simply because they were taken by their family as a child? How many wouldn't be if they never got that opportunity? A greater number of seats to fill will also allow the club to increase the number of new generation stoke supporters by offering tickets to local schools, clubs, universities, sports teams and so on. It is then more likely that a number of these will grow up to be regular, season ticket buying supporters and as a result will increase the number of people likely to buy tickets for the match. i.e, this increases supporter base. Any questions? Yep, who has the bigger supporter base Chelsea or Sunderland? I'm all for encouraging kids to come to matches and the club seems to do it pretty well - see the thread on how the young stokies were giving the tottenham fans stick from only a couple of days ago That's completely different. Chelsea's supporter base is large because of their success. We're talking about locals here not the far east.

And two seasons @ top half & 50 points does not inspire forward thinking investment? £70m+ also shouldn't give the management the confidence and business acumen to judge that now is the time - to take a HUGE gamble and spend £3m? God help us when life gets tough! Great job PC - now go and make a small step and fill the blasted corner in! I'm sorry I just think there are bigger priorities right now... 3 years of qualifying for Europe on merit and people being turned away every week and I could see it....but today the £3m should be invesited in a 15-20 goal a year striker or a top class provider The club is dripping in money. We would be unable to spend great chunks of it on players as FFP would screw us. We need to increase revenues. One way is more people in the ground.

I think I'm right in saying we've only made a profit once in the last 6 years and the increase in revenue is very small compared to improved league position - I believe we realistically could achieve 7th and maybe even 6th on a good year/with luck behind us...assuming 9th this year thats the equivalent of 4-6000 extra seats

By that argument not spending £20m on a striker and £20m on a winger continues to show how small time we are, I'm sure if we had 50,000 people wanting to watch us every week the club would extend the ground, looking at the regular empty seats around me we don't always have 27,500...

Perhaps if the club got off their lazy arses and did some SELLING they would fill the ground with ease. Typically they just sit back and think people will come. Pathetic.

We're running at 98% capacity or something daft. Empty seats are usually season ticket holders who haven't turned up for whatever reason. There is individual seats for sale from about a week before the game most weeks and nothing else. If you don't have a season ticket it's bloody difficult bordering on impossible to get seats together for your friends or family for a one off game. I don't get how people don't understand that?

We can also attract most of the local area, but much of that might be through attending games. I see your point but this is a long term thing. The cost of this is very little compared to the TV deal. Surely it would also look better for potential new signings to have a better looking stadium.

Maybe, although as the football becomes more exciting and we get more success (which I believe we are on the brink of with a good window this summer) then I suspect the numbers will turn up...there weren't many problems selling our allocation for the semi-final....I also don't get why the number of punters through the door is particularly a measure of ambition or success the alleged unwillingness to extend the wage structure is a far clearer measure to me, even though the salaries top players receive are a sickener, particularly when loyalty is pretty much a thing of the past

I agree that we should look at the need for extending the stadium but I'm just not sure we're there yet, the 98% full number is impressive but given team like Liverpool have 10 year waiting lists and still haven't taken the plunge I'm not surprised we are taking out time

I suppose we'll just have to see what happens.

And then they had issues with buying up property behind their main stand Fuck all to do with being reticent to expand. Even when their expansion is complete their stadium will be too small. Swansea,Hull,Reading all looking at expanding and they think they can virtually fill their grounds. The idea that Stoke wouldn't shift 1900 extra tickets is bonkers. No one is suggesting expanding to 50000 or even 40000. 30000 with minimal outlay which will have no negative impact on our ability to spend on the squad. When the club finally get round to doing it we can then have a sensible debate about what the optimum capacity should be. 100% certain we are not there.

Indeed it will and that has been the case for far longer than they have been considering the move and at a time when revenues from gate receipts mattered far more but still they haven't got it done I'm surprised to hear Reading and Hull are looking to expand but if they fill their stadia week in week out then I guess its understandable....but because others are doing it doesn't make it the right thing for Stoke I've no idea whether Stoke would shift another 1900 seats easily or whether the investment would pay for itself, for me it is only whether it should be a priority and I don't think it is right now I also don't understand why 30,000 is better than 27,500 in demonstrating ambition, surely its better to fill all the corners in and complete the ground - but you're right its a moot point until the club decides to take the plunge

maybe the reason for a lack of movement on filling the corners is because Saint Peter is looking to buy back the old site and build an all new Victoria ground
load of bollocks of course but how f^%king cool would that be

Don't the club still give away some number of seats to local schools and organisations? I seem to recall that the club told the supporters council that while they have enough free seats to be able to do that, they won't expand.
(Sounds like typical Scholes bullshit to me but what do I know)

(Sounds like typical Scholes bullshit to me but what do I know) They alledgedly give all these tickets away yet 10 days before a game you can't get 2 or more seats together. Sounds to me like they could still give tickets away to the local community whilst easily marketing and selling another 1,800 tickets

It will happen but it is a matter of judgement when. Another season of improvement and it will be a certainty.
