Was this an overwhelming endorsement of the Tories? Conservative vote increased by only 0.8%.
Was Labour routed? Labour increased their vote by 1.4%.
SNP win Scotland, and therefore independence is back on the cards? SNP only get 50% of the Scottish vote.
UKIP fail. UKIP increase their vote by 9.6% and have more votes than the SNP and LibDems combined.
It requires 150 times more votes to elect a UKIP MP than a SNP MP.
Don't be fooled by the distortion that the first past the post system does to democracy.

Two million more voted for the Conservatives than voted Labour though ....that is a a fact and a hundred more seats , perhaps not routed , but comprehensively beaten .

What I don't get is the great surprise that the Tories won. The wiping out of Labour in Scotland was predicted by every poll going and the Lib Dems loss of the SW seats to Conservative also. Even I was predicting this result for the last three weeks and I ain't a political commentator by any means. Then there was the disbelief at last nights exit polls that had me rolling on the floor laughing.

The SNP were only getting votes in 59 seats so of course they will get less votes than UKIP who were standing in 500+ seats.
And as for getting ONLY 50% of the vote-if UKIP had got that they would have 400+ MP's.
