Odemwingie (2015) New 1 year contract Wilkinson (2015) Gone Sorensen (2015) Retired Palacios (2015) Gone. Inevitable kids will be on this list too. I can imagine the vast majority who have played U21 this year.

Sadly
time to move on for SJW & Glenn (replace with younger hungrier pacier players from the championship)
gladly - Palacios & Wikinson move on (both liabilities now)
Odie - replace -(its a harsh world) - we keep one veteran and, its Crouch
Left footed centre half - (a proper one BADLY needed) Thanks Wooly - but your simply not quick enough nor, consistent enough
and, a proper right back assuming we would keep and play Gcam in his proper posiiton (rarely seen) as a holding midfielder in front of defence

Why on earth would people want to see the back of players like Jon Walters and Glenn Whelan?
We have a 25 man squad and it's a long hard season. There's definitely a place for these kind of players even if they're not regulars in the team.

yes I know
but its a harsh world and both these players at various times have looked knackered and washed up - very recently too
(SJW being played BY HUGHES LIKE HE WAS UNDER PULIS i.e. when plainly needs resting or an alternative)
there is loyalty - nobility - sentimentaility etc etc - both players have been great for us
and then --- there are the harsh truths of the premier league - its based upon speed - pace - movement - speed of thought - etc
both these 'old stalwarts' look exactly that (old stalwarts trotting about at their own pace in their own world)
my opinion

I think Walters will get a 12-month extension to take him to 2017.
Wouldn't think Whelan will be going anywhere having got an extension 'til 2017 2 or 3 months ago.
I wouldn't put much money either way on any of the 2016 expirings either getting a long-term extension or being sold. They appear to be the only group under threat of sale?
Begovic (2016) - probably sold for about £8m? But where? Needs an opening at a top club for a first-choice keeper and for them to be sure about him. Difficult to know if there's genuine interest from a club who ticks those boxes.
N'Zonzi (2016) hard to call. You'd think we'll offer him a long-term deal on circa 50k-a-week, but who knows if he doesn't jump at it? He and his agent will be testing his market, that's for sure?
Wilson (2016) - Hughes seems to like him, but still hard to be 100% sure.
Cameron (2016) - his card appeared marked, but his recent re-emergence muddies the issue
Walters (2016)- hard to think there won't be an extra 12 months on offer taking him up to 34.
Huth (2016) - mood music seems to disappointingly pointing to exit. Hope not.
Sidwell (2016) - will probably quietly see out his deal as low-maintenance cover, although couldn't rule out a sale.
Adam (2016) - very interesting one. Definitely adds something to the squad (esp from bench), but he'll be on very good money and never really brings much to the party from the advanced role when he starts games, which he won't be doing when Bojan is back, with Ireland as cover option. And will probably not be primary option to start games further back too often.

Odemwingie (2015) - Keep Wilkinson (2015) - release, with our thanks and best wishes Unfortunately just not good enough for us now Sorensen (2015) think he's retiring. I wouldn't be averse to keeping him, especially if Begovic goes Palacios (2015) - hmm, think on balance we should probably release the biggest waste of money in our history. I'll be interested to see where he ends up -------------------- Begovic (2016) - Sign new contract or sell this summer. We can't let this drift. Offer a contract in June, if he doesn't sign by end of July then we have August to sell. If a decent offer comes in before end of July then we mustn't pontificate on this or we'll lose him for nowt. N'Zonzi (2016) - Keep Wilson (2016)- Probably keep Cameron (2016) -See Adam Walters (2016) - Keep Huth (2016) - Think he'll go this summer, if not, I think 1 more season is the best we'll get Sidwell (2016) - Cheerio Adam (2016) - Probably keep, but if he ran down his contract it wouldn't be a disaster think we can leave making a decision until next season. Ness (2016) - Cheerio

It would be crazy to get rid of Glenn and SJW at this stage. Phase them gradually out by all means, but getting rid makes no sense whatsoever.
I think alongside Palacios and Wilko, one of the right backs (probably Geoff) will move on and Asmir will go. I think we'll give Wingie another 12 months.

I can see why people want Walters to stay and as an option I do too.
But will he or some of the others be happy with the below situation?
I'd say it's a fairly general consensus that we need a right winger and a good number still want Moses and if we don't get him we need another person to cover Arnie so that gives you;
New RW Bojan Arnie Odemwignie Ireland Moses/New LW
Diouf Crouch
And that's without the extra striker people want.....
There isn't much wriggle room without selling one of Crouch/Walters or letting Odemwingie go.

I have no doubt that if we had another winger, Walters would have been dropped a long time ago.

Wouldn't rule out TP coming in with something off the wall like a 3-yr deal for Walters over the summer - and that would be tempting for a player of his age. The man love is just too strong in that one.
It'd be interesting to see what we'd do then.

Defo Wilko and Palacios. Sorro could be renewed for another year as it probably doesn't hurt - epsecially if Bego may be off. Other than that a few to be loaned out and a couple sold. This new veteran keeper everyone is on about signing, would it not be prudent and aligned with our new budget restraints to keep sorro at stoke as the number two? If he is good enough for the bench for sparky now, why not another year to guide young jack forward in his new position as the starting keeper ? Saying that, I really don't want to see a mass exodus throughout the spine of the team as some have suggested above. Nessy and PieLacios for sure and Wolly can go back to his club for me and sadly Wilko will leave. Most of the others suggested are still very important to our team IMO. Be good for Stoke if Begovic stays but it seems the time we knew might come has already arrived.

Odemwingie (2015) Wilkinson (2015) Sorensen (2015) Palacios (2015) -------------------- Begovic (2016) N'Zonzi (2016) Wilson (2016) Cameron (2016) Walters (2016) Huth (2016) Sidwell (2016) Adam (2016) Ness (2016) -------------------- Muniesa (2017) Pieters (2017) Arnautovic (2017) Bardsley (2017) Ireland (2017) Teixeira (2017) Whelan (2017) Crouch (2017) -------------------- Shawcross (2018) Bojan (2018) Diouf (2018) -------------------- Butland (2019)
Don't think there's any debate on Palacios, Wilko or Soro. And seems unthinkable Wingie won't get something. But all the interesting stuff seems to be swirling around the 2016 lot. And if new deals aren't agreed, they'll presumably be off? He's got very interesting calls on new deals with Wilson, Cameron, Walters, Huth and Adam - and things will become clear one way or the other with Begovic and N'Zonzi too. In terms of the players contracted until 2017, I'd be amazed if any of them were sold except maybe Bardsley (but hard to see his market on his wage?) Wilkinson Palacios Begovic Wilson or Cameron (not both) Ness Bardsley Teixiera Whelan Wollscheid

Released or sold
Sorro retire Wilco released Palacios released Begovic sold for £10mil Sidwell sell seems to have no purpose here Ness sold Textiera loan or sold Odom keep on a pay as you play 6 month contract to prove fitness with extension written in. Bardsley sold Keep Wilson, Walters and GCam for there adaptability unless offered 3m+
Incoming in order of priority
DM a Whelan upgrade. I really like Fer or the lad from Barca.
Wingers x 2 one expensive one cheap. Moses if he can prove his fitness and Sakho.
RB Trippier
CB but only if Huth goes
GK reserve of Rob Green or Scwartzer
STR Though for me Mame should stay first choice. Osaka seems a good cheap option.

Bump...
anyone care to give this list a quick update... Missing Given, Haugaard, Imbula, Shaq, Joselu, etc. Think Bojan needs an update too.

I like both Ireland and Adam but weighing up how much game time they're likely to get probably use their combined wage to get one top quality youngster in. Good that some of our younger more exciting talent is tied up until at least 2018 though, shows with a few shrewd purchases we'll only grow as a team and get better. Arnautovic and Afellay need to be putting pen to paper on new deals and we're looking very healthy going into next season.....

Think Odemwingie probably should move on, for his own career as much as Stoke's benefit
We should look to tie up or sell the 2017 list too, particularly those who are younger and hence likely to a) attract bids and b) not suffer the age related deterioration
So new contracts for Affelay and Arnie Johnson, Whelan, Adam and Ireland - potentially new contracts, but no rush to decide Given, Tex, Bardsley, Crouch - let the contract run down unless we get an offer then sell
