I always thought the capped one thought he was too light-weight and asked him to hit the gym At which point, he bulked up too much and lost most of his pace and movement...in other words..he got top heavy This rings a bell but as to whether it's the truth, whole truth and nothing but is another matter Meh, possibly true. He made a wrong move coming here though, he had bags of potential, and we ruined him. He "ruined" himself! He had bags of potential, landed a cushy contract, sat on his hands and took the cash (fair play though, each to their own). When we say "ruined" ...he became a millionaire, had a cushy life and preferred that to taking a pay cut and dropping back to the championship. He could have screamed from the rafters he was not happy....but unless anyone can correct me.....I can't recall any reported event of this?

I took my lad along to a corporate day at the training ground a few years back. You got to train on the pitches, meet the players etc and get autographs and photos.
The one autograph my lad missed out on that he really wanted was Sorro's and as we were walking back to our car we saw a new Lamborghini with a personal plate, TS something or other. I told my lad that must be Sorro's car but just at that moment Sorro drove by in a rather nice BMW, stopped and signed my lads football. That was when we realised that the Lambo must belong to the scarcely seen Tom Soares.
I don't blame Tom Soares for taking the cash that was one offer. Good luck to him. It just shows though, just what a very ordinary player can earn in the modern game. Set up for life from just one decent contract

God we've feathered the nests of some absolutely dog-shit 'footballers' over recent years.

Tom Soares and Michael Tonge were two of the best central midfielders in the championship, they came to stoke and played on the wing.
It really is as simple as that why it didn't work out for them, they never were or ever would be Tony Pulis central midfielders.

Tonge couldn't get a game at Leeds for example. It's almost like Tony coached the footballer out of them.

Well id go as far to say that they were or never would be Premiership midfielders either mate! The bottom line for me is, if they were on championship money, they would have been happy to move back. They were on too much money and were happy to stay in the reserves. I put this down to the naivety of our transfer team when we got promoted. We made some costly mistakes in the first few years. People blame Pulis for that, I don't, someone somewhere signed the cheques and wrote the contracts, luckily now we seem to have the staff who can handle this better. We had a really Mickey Mouse approach and agents really exploited that, I think people forget how much of a threadbare squad we had once we got promoted, and how few players actually wanted to sign, we as a club had one eye on relegation...and so did every player and his agent at that time!
