Thought the Swansea midfield gave us quite a clear marker. They have a good mix and each individual is very good on the ball. They are an impressive side in general.

I agree, I just think we look a bit @@@ ed. Like Man City we seem to have seriously aged as a squad together. Our key players Begovic. Looks to want to leave Shawvross. Looks not right post injury Hugh. Out on loan at Leicester Whelan. Looks dead on his legs Nzonxi. Could be leaving? Walters. Dead on his legs? Aside from Bojan Miuniesa and Diouf I would say our main men all have question marks over them as to whether they will be here next year. I'm actually pretty worried about it The spine of our team leaving/ ageing like this is likely to leave us in a relegation fight unless we invest

How can they not be good enough if we finish with 50+ points and a top half finish again? Pieter's was really poor for their opening goal but he rarely lets us down. Wilson had a decent enough game up to being sent off. We were crap today, from first minute to last and deservedly left with nothing. However, rather than go on a witch hunt for every player in our team, none of which are beyond criticism on their performance today with the possible exception of Ryan, my overriding observation is that we are currently looking a very tired outfit. I said it after the Southampton game, we ran out of legs v Sunderland and our legs never seemed to get going today. We need to eek out those final 4 points that will see us eclipse last season and given the injuries we've endured, it will mark another good season from our boys. Is a witch hunt really necessary? We played poorly AS A TEAM and deservedly lost. No which hunt dave just MY opinion and thats what we do on here[just like yoursen] give our views. If you can't live with that then so be it.We've had a fantastic season and i'm delighted with the manager and most of the players BUT if we want to improve we need to get better defenders in. I can more than live with it. I was offering my view by way of counter balancing your view. Isn't that what we do on here? With 4 centre halves of Huth, Shawcross, Muniesa and Wilson we have more than enough in that position in my opinion. With Pieters at left back, Muniesa as back up and Wilson who can also do a job there, we have more than enough at left back as well. Our right backs aren't the best and neither are as good an option as Wilko was during the cup final season. Trippier would be a great addition. When you're tired, you make mistake. It's the nature of the game sadly. We've battled on manfully all season long and in my opinion, it is a tad over the top to suggest the most of the competitors for slots in our back 4 need replacing.

I still don't understand why we don't play muniesa more when fit. Hes a much better option at cb imo.

Our full backs have never stopped crosses though, certainly not under Tone (they were too narrow) and I have no idea why the current lot don't. I think they may struggle with being a touch isolated.

No I didn't hear it. Pieters is normally the only one who makes any attempt to stop a cross and 1 v 1 he's usually very reliable. He couldn't stop today's cross because Shelvey? had dribbled it around him. It isn't like he was standing 10 yards off him inviting him to cross it was it? He was pretty good today until their goal then he went to pot because he knew he'd let Shelvey beat him too easily.

Next season
Starting CB's - Shawcross and Muni. Cover Huth and 4th choice Wilson would be sufficient especially as we have GCam too. Whats happened to Texiera?

I just don't think Muni is going to be our CB going forward. We need to acquire a really big & fast CB in the Summer. However, I think he could replace Whelan in CM

Huth & shawcross ( defending centre halfs) for me tried and tested, add quality fullbacks, a decent holding midfield player who can collect the ball and do something with it like nzonzi and we'd be laughing

We desperately need a right back and centre half. None of the centre backs we have now are good enough end of. Okay Muni has played for Barca but he is not reliable over a season. We need a long tern partner for Ryan as priority. That won't be Huth because he does not play the Hughes way. Just glad Wolly has been dropped as he is a walking tortoise time bomb. How a younger Faye would compliment Ryan now,

Pieters is good enough but I agree on wolly, Wilson, bardsley and Cameron. we need an over haul this summer. but who could we get in? glik from Torino as central defender. Snap him up while it's still possible

Mind you I only saw him for about 15 minutes in the league this year and if that cameo is anything to go by, then God help us. He was awful

Sparkies football knowledge and prowess are not in question, for me the best tactical manager we have had for some time. Great to see us dominating matches and not fearing anybody However, he has to start proving he can buy quality, team, players on his own merit. Bojan apart it is the squad that he inherrited that is generally doing the business for him. Whelan and Walters were supposed to be bit part players this year, yet both of them have been integral parts of our season and are rightly being touted for player of the year. For me we still look lost as a competetive team when these players are missing - which has to be a worry - yes, I know, we have had an injury hit season which has forced Hughes hand. The team is strugling a bit at the moment, both going forward and at the back and have to say as much as optimism abounded at the start of this season, I am slightly worried for next season. The fact that some of our players attitudes are being called into question, by both fans and fellow team members is also cause for concern and I hope this is not the slipery slope. Huth back as quick as possible and 2 quality full backs are an absolute minimum as it stands now. I dont like to single players out, but at the moment we only have 1 player at the back that I am happy with and there are also some egos that need moving on. Never mind the next level, we need a bit of back to basics next year and further consolidation. And come on Hughes prove to us that you are capable of building your own teams - this is the only thing missing from your locker.

An average of 1.36 goals per game conceded in 2013/14, compared to 1.25 goals this season after 35 games.
An average of 1.18 goals scored per game in 2013/14, compared to 1.11 goals this season after 35 games.
Assuming we don't concede 8 goals in our last three games then we will have seen a slight improvement defensively, if we score less than six goals then a slight decrease from last year.

I respectfully disagree with the OP
even before the very useful stats offered immediately above
Great servants to the club now need moving on as a greater priority than the OP's view - SJW and Glenn need to be improved upon in our first eleven - that would be my priority,
and yes Robert Huth Returns to the squad
some hard calls for our manager this summer
Odie too - do we keep him ? (I think there is a hard call needed here too - to release him and find a younger player)

The management team's tactics have to be brought into some question with regard our defence - if only along the lines of how we set up against corners / free kicks etc (although there are other issues too). Personally I don't think it's that drastic a problem that you need to haul in 4 or 5 new players. Ironically the one guy who everyone would keep ie. Ryan is probably the one who needs the season to end quicker than anyone so he can recover fitness and a bit of confidence.

A settled defence will certainly need to be a priority. Injuries haven't helped but we have chopped and changed all season. We have been at our best defensively when we have had a settled back four who are used to playing together. As mentioned earlier, despite this we are 10th. Some of the players being discussed are valuable squad members and we do need to retain players good enough to step in as required. The likes of Sidwell have been very disappointed with the lack of game time, maybe we will se him feature before the end of the season it's MH role to keep players in a similar situation and to be fair he's rewarded good performances At least one more defender in our ranks is needed imo and I would like to see Huth get another chance Improving the Goals Scored column is the most important challenge - a top striker or 2 would be top of my list. I can cope with losing 3-2

Not a bad defence but too many silly goals a good few of which could be down to lack of understanding between players who don't play together regularly. Cheaper to stop leaking goals than it is to find goak scorers. We need tweaking but also competition for each place. Yesterday showed the desperate need for pace.

That being said I think our biggest needs are RB, CB, LW, RW and striker in that order.

Pieters hasn't had the greatest 2nd season, but he should stay.
CBA taking about our RB's everyone knows the score there.
Muniesa is a better option than Huth, bollox to you purists.
A DM that can pass forward would be nice!
Wollschied - He made Danny Graham look a world beater , enough said.

There are plenty of spots where our team could improve, but I think cdm, right wing, and striker are all bigger priorities than the back four.
