Just heard on the radio that there will be a pilot today to breathalise fans at the Cambridge/Burton game. Is this the thin end of the wedge...

For what benefit? It isn't illegal to be drunk so what would be the point? Being drunk and disorderly is a crime but how can they say you can't walk in a football ground because you've had a few beers?
If this comes in place then I'll just stop going.

Might be tricky doing it for the directors and their guests in the director's box!

Thing is I bet plenty of supporters who agree with it under the lame notion if you do nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about.

They'll be asking why attendances have dropped next!?

Some police forces could use it to their advantage.

I don't agree with it but it's funny that it would be expected that people would decide not to go anymore.
After all going to watch your team isn't supposed to be about the booze up.
Even if it does help ease through the shitter performances lol.

It is against law to be drunk at football matches & plenty of people have fallen foul of this law. The irony that this is being done at a Brewers away game.

I have been refused entry to a football ground many moons ago for being drunk. It is against the law.

A few pints on board, at times, has been the only way to watch Stoke
more nanny state crap

It's 35 ml to drive a car , but you need 135 ml minimum if you are witnessing a 3-0 defeat to the Arse.

what is the legal limit then? 70 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath apparently, which is twice the current drink drive limit. So roughly about 4 pints!!!!!!!!! The stewards are going to administer it as well!!!!!! This is a quote from some Cambridgeshire plod “We accept that a responsible fan may consume a moderate amount of alcohol before a game, however, we are focusing on the overly-intoxicated people who are most likely to become problematic during or after the game." So if they're concentrating on the 'overly intoxicated' why the fuck do they need a breath test machine. A blind man with only half a brain cell could spot some of the pissed up numps at our away games.... mind you we are talking stewards here.

Will they be still selling it at HT? Good point. Presumably as responsible organisations the clubs will stop selling alcohol in the grounds in case it they become complicit in taking unsuspecting supporters over the limit. Unless of course the bar staff breathalyse you every time you buy a drink.

I have mixed feelings, hard to imagine this won't hurt attendances however for a lot of fans football seems to be more about getting wasted then actually watching the game. I'm leaning towards supporting it

So a violent maniac doesn't have a pre match pint and gets in a ground with no problems. Gentle pacifist soul doesn't get in because of 3 pints of Bass.

It might be that way to you but for many of us the game is just part of the match day 'experience' For many of us meeting up a couple of hours before the game having quite a few beers chatting then meeting up after to have more beers is the whole day out. Using the alleged benchmark or four pints I'd never get into a football game again. GD

We Are Stoke, it's not just about the club, its friends, family, community & part of that means pub. Unfortunately not so much for me these days, as I have my kids in tow & Social Services get a bit twitchy if you mix kids & grog

Can't be done I don't think. You can't use the driving limit, you would have to exclude on drunken behaviour only. A lot of people could be well over the limit and be well behaved. Others are badly behaved on 2 halves of shady.

Just heard on the radio that there will be a pilot today to breathalise fans at the Cambridge/Burton game. Is this the thin end of the wedge... I've heard this touted around for ages now. Only having sober fans would be perfect for the Premier Leagues vision of Sanitised, Middle class entertainment. Can't see it happening though with the massive knock on effect to businesses / boozers on match days.
