22 years since we drew 2-2 with Holland in a world cup qualifier. Also we won the league against Plymouth! !

I was at Wembley that night (I went with school and didn't realise it clashed with the Plymouth match)
John Barnes scored a free kick, Platt made it 2-0, and they scored a penalty right at the the end when Overmars skinned Des Walker.
Seem to recall Gazza getting a whack off someone aswell.

Wasn't the Plymouth game Peter Fox's last for us?

Wasn't the Plymouth game Peter Fox's last for us? I'm not certain, but I think there were two games left after Plymouth and Foxy played in both.

Pretty sure it was Platt, I remember the ball hitting the post and he knocked in the rebound. I can only recall Dixon scoring once for England, against Ireland a few years before.

When Overmars scored the penno I was rather gutted. But pleased we'd won the league

Foxy made a few good saves and one breath-taking one that night. He made a brilliant double save then we broke and scored the winner.

Foxy made a few good saves and one breath-taking one that night. I missed it due to having my head in my hands - their player looked like he'd got a gaping goal in front of him with Foxy completely out of it. Then there was a massive cheer, and when I looked up, the ball was trundling out for a throw-in. I just assumed there'd been some form of devine intervention.

Bizarre because I thought I remembered it being a crap night when England threw away that two goal lead against Holland.

It was a brilliant night, especially after the disappointment in the playoffs a year earlier.

Bizarre because I thought I remembered it being a crap night when England threw away that two goal lead against Holland. Yeah, strangely enough that was my thought as well. I remember being pee'd off that England had chucked the game away. Can't think why I'd be that arsed given what had happened at our game. I never associated them as taking place at the same time.

I had tickets for the England game also. But soon as it looked like we could be made Champions agains Plymouth I sold them. Plymouth battered us from what I can remember and we hung on for dear life. I can remember buying a Stoke scarf after the game that said Stoke City Champions on it. I put it next to a vale fans bench at work the next morning :-)
