I know you can criticise Bego a bit for his positioning but nobody was saving that (okay, maybe Gordon Banks in his prime) so why can't we do that? We have some good technical players now

It was straight at the keeper.
A regulation catch if Bego hadn't moved out of the way for some reason.

It was straight at the keeper. A regulation catch if Bego hadn't moved out of the way for some reason. That's right, the ball was hit into the side of the goal that Begovic was covering so an easy save if he hadn't decided to take a step in the other direction as the ball was hit. Not the first time he's done that this year either, our goalkeeping coach, assuming we have one, needs to have a word with him.

Bego cost us again. The list of goals for which he's been culpable for is getting pretty long right now.

That goal was more down to Whelan the Begovic that's for certain

Bego is wank on free kicks. Always leaves a big target for taker to aim

It was an excellent free kick, Whelan shouldn't be conceding a free kick in that position and while Begovic didn't seem to position himself well we can't say any other keeper would've saved it and I'm not sure how posters like you get some idea that they're experts at positioning of goalkeepers, you're not, you know fuck all and I'm willing to bet that Gordon Banks one of the best goalkeepers in the history of football would've or has had words of advice for Begovic as to how to position himself.

It's dreadful from Bego, he could head it clear if he doesn't get fooled by the right footer standing over the ball. Awful goalkeeping.

There have been an awful lot of goals from direct freekicks in the Premier League this year - perhaps all the goalkeepers are equally to blame with positioning? Against QPR an awful lot of posters blamed Begovic for standing too far to his right, so that he couldn't cover the side of the goal that Krancjar put it in. Today he takes a step to cover the ball over the wall and is beaten at his side of the goal, but yet again he's got it wrong. People are going to have opinions about any goal we concede, that's the nature of our game - but that is all they are, opinions. As far as I'm aware NONE OF US have played in goal at even the Championship level, so we really don't know how easy it is to save a free kick, how much of the goal you should be able to cover with a sprawling leap, what your weight distribution should be for instance. I actually thought that it was a good free kick, but I also thought Ozil's free kick against Liverpool was excellent - Michael Owen ( a guy who has never played in goal in his competitive career) thought Mingolet was at fault. As I said, when you look at the number of goals scored from direct free kicks, a lot of keepers seem to struggle in getting their positioning right. Perhaps we should give free kick takers a little more credit?
