Just sat back thinking how 5 goals went past him at Wembley and he went to Chelsea soon after for mega money. Is he really that good? Baffles me a bit because I don't see him as "that" special really?

He's been good at Chelsea - playing alongside Terry. Can't help but think that he would benefit playing alonsgide Shawcross for England.
He does throw in some clangers too often - e.g. his mistake for Crouch goal last season
scores goals mind
for me he is a very good player if flawed.

he was outstanding for Bolton that season and one of the main reasons they were so successful in that season up until the spanking from us.
He deserved his big move to be fair to him

3rd best English CB at the moment. He loves to turn his back on shots

He won pretty much every aerial duel with him. If only he'd done that more often.

Hes a good defender and a damming indictment of the current state of centre backs in equal parts.

Shawcross conceded 5 at Bolton but he's the best defender in the league apparently.

To summarise my feelings about Gary Cahill as a footballer and a personality on the pitch, I suppose I'd have to go with SHIT HOUSE.
Wouldn't swap the bloke with Texiera.

Our set pieces haven't been up to scratch this season at all.

I've never understood the hype around Cahill at all. He's got the physical attributes, but I've never thought he was brave enough or smart enough.
I think he was responsible for Balotelli's goal against us at the world cup, with him and Gerrard responsible for Suarez' winner when Uruguay knocked us out.
I wouldn't swap him for Ryan or Muniesa.

When we first got promoted, I think we tried to sign Cahill, only for him to choose to go to Bolton instead.
Had he signed for us and ended up playing alongside Ryan for a few years, I wonder if he would be an England player now.

It'll be interesting if he is still decent for Chelsea when Terry goes, I don't think he will. Decent player but not a leader

A defender who's reputation is built around being comfortable on the ball rather than his defensive capability.

In fairness THAT day at Wembley was more down to our brilliance rather than Cahill's deficiencies. Coyle chose to totally disrespect us with his ultra attacking line-up and Cahill was left exposed on so many occasions.
Cahill is also a better footballer than our Ryan, but never a better defender. Another plus point he has is that he pops up with goals at regular intervals, something that seemingly Ryan has lost from his.
Overall I'd take Cahill in a heartbeat if Chelsea decided to offload.

Cahill though is not the leader of a defence - like Jagielka too. That's why the England defence struggles. Cahill would be fine playing with Ryan, but dreadful replacing him.

It's a crying shame they've not been brought through together in the England set-up, they could have been the bedrock of the national team for years.
