After the long wait and his debut goal v Barnsley who could blame you. I shared the excitement only to be told by a good friend at the club that his knee was so bad, he could barely even straighten his left leg. It was fair to say that dadason was a good player but sadly was damaged goods. I can remember shirts being sold outside the ground and mugs saying 'its Daddi time' Brilliant!!! It culminated in peg leg Dadason blaming his wretched form on the fact that Stoke didn't offer the same cultural outlets as say, Venice!

I can remember being really excited about signing Chris Greenacre; seemed to be scoring for fun for Mansfield....I was very young! I know it's hardly the modern era! Harry Not your fault. There was fucking tonnes of hype surrounding him. I remember the Sentinel did a whole spread about him. Remember reading it and thinking "fuck me, this kid's going to set the world alight"... yeah lol. I remember when we signed Ameobi thinking Premiership pedigree.

Owen was never going to work out. One of Tone's sticker book signings. Players I was excited about who lived up to it (to a degree at least): Grobbelaar, Sheron, Hoekstra, Simmo, Taggart, Eustace, Ricardo, Ethers, Pennant, Moses. Players who didn't: McMahon, Lightbourne, Dorigo, Harper, Kolar, Tuncay, Jones, Palacios. Funnily enough, I was over the moon when we signed Palacios. He was terrific at Spurs and I was saying stuff like "we need to build the team around him", fuck me what a disaster. I said the same about Eidur. One who did live up to his hype was Tommy. Great keeper before he came to Stoke and was probably our signing of the season the year we got promoted, imo.

Junior Bent. If you went to Torquay you'd know the excitement was a little premature....... Saw the title of the thread and immediately thought of Junior Bent.. excited anticipation on the journey down.....Bit different on the way back though!!

Bojan !! Knew next to nothing about him before he signed but YouTube soon made me realise just how good the lad could be.
Tuncay was another but he never got a fair crack of the whip here but could have been very good indeed under another manager!

Arismendi was quite exciting - remember people logging on from Uruguay to say what a player we had got. I spent about two weeks on Nacional's forum when we signed him. God they absolutely idolised him there. Flags with his face on, the lot. Big club too, he played in Copa Libertadores semi-finals with them and I think was even the captain.

Hookstra.
Signing a Dutch international from Ajax when you're in the 3rd level of English football.

Bojan, same as y_oh_y I knew next to nothing about him, but the more I saw and read the more I liked the idea, I became absolutely convinced that his 'problems' at other clubs stemmed from some sort of confidence issue and was 100% certain he'd recapture his form once he felt the Stokie love, probably more blind faith than anything else to be fair :D
I still didn't expect him to be quite as good as he is tho'!

Dave Bamber is another I thought was going to be our saviour.
When Bamber turned out to be crap we replaced him with Tony Ellis, and I thought this time we have definitely signed a saviour.

Fuller.
I'd always really rated him and thought he was just the sort of player a TP team would need in the Championship.
I don't think I expected him to work quite as amazingly as he did though.

Alan Hudson At the time I used to start my morning paper round at 6 and by 6.15 I was back at home and racing upstairs shouting for my Mum and Dad to read the back page headlines. It is probably fair to say that they were not quite as excited as I was!

Vincent Pericard - He was on the books at Juventus you know!
Getting Tuncay and Huth in a double deal was properly exciting for us at the time! I remember being in the pub and almost choking on my pint when i read it!

Bojan and Tuncay. Knew about Bojans quality at Barcelona. Had a mate who supported Middlesbrough so I knew all about Tuncay and how important he was for them. Thought it was a joke when he told me we had signed Tuncay.

I had always rated Fuller, but remember being a bit suspicious when we signed him, like I expected him to be well past his best and/or unlikely to avoid injury for long.
