TBF I would hate if they went down or folded as I am old school. I used to go stoke one week and Vale the next with my dad. It was only when I got older and my friends were going Stoke that I found my allegiance I wouldn't care if they folded but then I wouldn't wish it upon them either. A few relegations into non-league obscurity will do nicely though!

Their average gate of 6000 doesn't make a real difference to us and we really ought to show our superiority by having the good grace to rise above such pettiness.

You have to feel a bit sorry for the manager, what seemed to have been an honest lower league defender tries his hand at manager. Oh dear, hope you weren't thinking of some sort of long haul at management type job thing here, Rob.

Anyway I think you are wrong, most football supporters, at least those of a certain age, hate to see the demise of a fellow club ( I might make an exception for Arsenal and Manure)

No I don't want to see them completely go to the wall either, that would spoil fun on days like these. So long as the comedy keeps coming from the lower reaches that's perfectly OK. If all football clubs went under that we disliked, there wouldn't be much of a league would there?

They hate us and wish us nothing but ill, so fuck'em.

There was a good and healthy rivalry for far more years than there has been the childishness shown by an insecure few, mainly of the Johnny come lately variety. Long term Stoke supporters know we are better than them and have been for all but a tiny blip so we can afford to be generous.

Given that last year when they weren't doing that well they had an average gate of 6000 I think that may be a tad over egged. As for the Sentinel that stopped being of value once you were no longer allowed to wrap fish and chips in it. Not much else I can add other than that I will continue to take the high moral ground.

More than happy to continue taking the piss as I have done for many years; it's the magnitude of the vitriol I disagree with; we share the same City, there are enough outside this City all too willing to have a go at where we live, without us doing it.

The ones I've grown up with hate Stoke through and through, but most have just lost interest in football altogether, which probably goes towards explaining their games (along with Smurf's extortionate ticket prices).

Have they all given up on the play offs yet? :)
I wouldn't want them out of a business, they must have a couple of decent football fans somewhere. A decade or two of non league football would be perfect though.

It's how many they'd get if they were in the Prem (don't laugh). Their fan base (snigger) would probably equate for getting on for 15,000. If they had never existed then the vast majority of these would be following Stoke, and as a 1 club city our gates would be far higher, and of course smellier.

I'm 'Old School', too. Like some others on here, I used to go Stoke one week and Vale the next. In fact I can remember the days when Crewe perennially propped up the 4th division and if they were winning when the half time scores were read out at The Vic, there was a loud cheer around the ground. But things have changed. Old fashioned rivalry has changed over the years from friendly banter to downright hatred. And it's not just Stoke supporters who can be blamed for it. In fact I think the nastiness was started by fans of the two 'lesser' clubs, which was fueled by the local rag changing from the superb paper it once was to something that is really only fit to wipe your arse on. They carry much of the blame for what has happened between fans of Stoke and Vale and Crewe, especially when the latter two had their 'moments of glory'. So, to be honest, I'm indifferent to Vale and Crewe. I couldn't care less about them. In fact I'll go as far as to say that I'll have a grin on my face if they both get relegated this year. OS.
