I dont intend to curb your enthusiasm over the shaqiri-signing, but here are some things to consider: Shaqiri might come with great skills and enormous calves - both well above average; no doubt! But his injury-prone and his attitude unfortunately is above average too. Shaqiri sees himself on a level with Messi, Ronaldo and the likes. His favorite nickname is "Alpen-Messi" (Messi of the alpes). Fact is, he remained a substitute, supplement player while at Bayern as well as at Inter. In Milan he normally watched the games from the stands and did not even make it on the bench. Reason was, there where better and fitter players with less of an attitude than him. (And of course, Manchini is an idiot...) However, the only time he plays regularly and for the length of a match, is when he plays for Switzerland. I also worry that he might not be able to keep up with the high pace and the speed of Premier League Football. In Switzerland, Germany and Italy, football is played a lot slower and is strongly dominated by tactics rather than speed. Its less physical as well. Also, I am not sure how he fits in his new environment at Stoke. Shaqiri is not really known for his modesty: When he arrived at Inter Milan, he was celebrated as their savior - and he really enjoyed that role and kept saying, that he's the guy to bring back success to the club, and how he can decide a game all on his own... Not sure how you guys in stoke react to such crap. Anyway, I don't want to spoil the party and I really hope Shaqiri will rock the Premier League! Just dont be surprised if he doesn't. Thanks for your points. From my perspective, I would say if Shaqiri sees himself as potentially as good as Messi, Ronaldo and the likes, then this is potentially last chance saloon for him to finally prove that. That sounds drastic for a 23 year old, but here's a player who was once being dubbed the new Messi and things at Bayern and Inter didn't work out. I would say he needs this move a lot more than perhaps people think. This gives him a chance to get regular game time. That said, there are very few teams who support and nurture, hmmmm, how shall we put it, misguided players as much as Stoke. No idea how much you are aware of our history, recent history in fact, we've taken on players like Matthew Etherington, who for example had borderline thrown his career down the toilet in favour of gambling, and got him within inches of an England recall. We took Jermaine Pennant who had lost his way at Zaragoza and got him playing the best football of his career. Arrogance is a little different I suppose, although I would say look at Arnautovic who came with a bit of a reputation for being cocky and has toned it down a bit. Shaqiri will need to control that though, hopefully Sparky can help with that. He will also get plenty of support from Stoke fans (foot in my mouth here on the Oatcake), we will give him time to impress. We don't expect a hat trick on his debut. If he can bring his best form over the course of the season then he will be celebrated. Nobody expects instant success. I have to admit, I am not too familiar with your clubs history – but what I read and hear is, that Stoke has quite a run recently (9th last season?) and is managed by very able people (Mark Hughes) and most off all has a fantastic crowd of real and true fans. Speaking of Shaq’s character, I think he’s a good lad who just has been having difficulties to deal with fame in a very young age. (The guy was only 19 when he moved to Bayern!) He now must realize that this might be his last chance and if he gets the support from the crowd and manager, stays injury free, he will be fine. I truly hope; for his, yours and the Swiss national teams sake!

One of a few foreign players I've heard of, I remember watching him in a World Cup game , when he scored a hat trick and my mate said "Thank God Switzerland are not in England's group, imagine what he would do to Glenn Johnson."

Relax everyone, it's in the UA www.uttoxeteradvertiser.co.uk/Stoke-unveil-biggest-signing-12m-Xherdan-Shaqiri/story-27592882-detail/story.html?The diminutive star spent many frustrating hours clicking his heels, along with fans, before his signing was officially unveiled.
Shaqiri's signing has predictably gone down a storm with fans and Angela Smith, chair of the Supporters' Council, says: "He's everything that we want. He's a crowd pleaser, a matchwinner, creative and exciting... everything we now associate with a Mark Hughes team.
See, these journos are men of the people.

I am sure that Bayern Munich fans have no problem knocking up an atmosphere for sure, but we're different in the sense that will be given huge amounts of support. Bayern fans are used to seeing big names turn up on their doorstep. I suppose we're not. He will be given time here and he will be given chances.

Maybe so he enjoy beating Arsenal every season ;0) You can't beat Arsenal fans. They're ever so cute. Everything's a big conspiracy, they really do have the best players in the world (if you read their forums), every fan in the Premier League wants them to win the Premiership over the other teams and my favourite is the recent influx of the victim mentality. Nothing is their fault. When they lose, it's the refs fault. Look at the weekend, they were soundly beaten yet their fans still decided to pin most of the blame on the referee. The two goals were perfectly legitimate.

“I’m really happy to be here and be a part of Stoke City and the family and I just can’t wait to play for this club,” the forward said.
“It was a long three days but in the end I’m happy to be here and I can’t wait to meet my new team-mates and go on the pitch and do what I like and what I love which is playing football
“Playing in the Premier League was always a dream of mine and I’m really happy to be here.
“It’s a fantastic league, with great attacking football, the fans in the stands are unbelievable and for me it’s the best league in the world.
“It was always a dream to play here and this is a dream come true.
“I can’t wait to play in the big stadiums and against the big teams and to score for Stoke City and make the fans happy.”
“For sure, for me I want to play in Europe and I think we have the quality to go there,” he told the club’s official website.
“Stoke have taken some very good players and at this moment you can see the club is growing every year and this was important for me to play in a team with quality and Stoke City has some very good players.
“I’m sure that we will have a good season, play some good football and show the fans good football.”

Sorry boys, there's no way he could have signed for us: there's nothing in The Metro about it. Everton are (still) in the process of hijacking the deal, apparently. Arsenal are in for couple of players, though!

The metro will have him signing a contract to star in Eastenders as Phill Mitchell's tumour or something, i wouldn't even wipe my arse on that outlet, it's more of blog written by monkeys really

I personally think they have one of the strongest midfields on paper and (as much as I hate to say it), play the best football in the league by a country mile! If it wasn't for their kiddies being injured every 2 minutes, they could have possibly gone on to win the title last season. Giroud is not the answer but think if Benzima signed, they could mount a serious challenge They still won't beat us at home though ;O)

None of them, however, and I mean none, fancy a physical battle. Even Coquelin, who they've now decided is better than both Morgan Schneiderlen and Bastian Schweinsteiger, bottles it when it comes to a physical game. He was out-battled convincingly by West Ham's fairly ordinary midfield including a 16 year old. They have no grit when it comes to the fight. They feel they're owed something and as such, act as so.

Just watched his interview on Stoke City player, worth a watch if you have access to it. When you hear the words 'Stoke City - Perfect' in that accent, oh its gets you!
Seems extremely happy to be here, constantly smiling, looking forward to the challenge, thinks we are capable of European football. Great times.

What an amazing bit of news to arrive home to - just wow... :-)
