We can feel your pain. We really can! Anyway I will leave you to stew in your bile and disappointment and I'll catch you tomorrow when you have come to terms with it all. Depsite posting a Shakatak video last night and saying this the one I wanted far more than the Eastern European boys. But keep being a lying bastard if it makes you feel better. Nice to see the manager finally backed after 2 and a half years. Aren't you worried by the size of the transfer fee by the way, you've been boring the cunt off everyone about that topic for months and it is a lot for someone you didn't rate much when we weren't signing him. As you well know, the disappointment I refer to is that yet again the management of our recruitment is the talk (and envy) of the country. The self same recruitment organisation I have been commending transfer window after transfer window whilst at the same time you have been condemning me for saying so and dismissing our business as a shambles. The quality we now have hasn't been acquired thanks to one great deal this window. There has been transformational business done window after window since Mark Hughes was brought in and the revised recruitment strategy was put into place. I stopped worrying about the size of fee when the recruitment organisation was restructured and did not largely rely on Panini Sticker books and recommendations by Harry Rednapp (with the odd left of field Diego Arismendi thrown in). Most importantly I stopped worrying when it wasn't reliant on hand outs from Bet365. The value and quality seems to have calmed my fears but in parallel and quite bizarrely increased yours. You are just going to have to reflect on the bile you have thrown around this message board on the subject of our recruitment, admire the quality of squad we now have on our books and hold your hands up. Crying foul when you get it thrown back at you (in a very light hearted manner incidentally) is a bit rich given that you standard modus of operation on a daily basis has been to hound members of this message board who do not agree with your viewpoint as heretics and remind them of when and how they committed 'treason' during the Pulis years. I'll draw a line under it now but you haven't half been making yourself look a cock lately. Your ranting has been as wank as the traffic in Birchwood.

Piss taking I can take, if you live by the sword etc. However, I've been banging on about the level of support the manager has received so the very suggestion that I would be in some way pissed off by this signing is harder to take and has the logic of the retarded chimp about it. Then again if you look at those throwing their own shit about.........

Great signing but im not expecting him to be our best player. I dont want to get too carried away. If he can produce some bojanesque performances or match arnie on the other wing then i'll be delighted.

I agree, once settled in I'm expecting a slightly less tricky but more consistent and better at shooting Arnie for the right side.

I dont intend to curb your enthusiasm over the shaqiri-signing, but here are some things to consider:
Shaqiri might come with great skills and enormous calves - both well above average; no doubt! But his injury-prone and his attitude unfortunately is above average too.
Shaqiri sees himself on a level with Messi, Ronaldo and the likes. His favorite nickname is "Alpen-Messi" (Messi of the alpes). Fact is, he remained a substitute, supplement player while at Bayern as well as at Inter. In Milan he normally watched the games from the stands and did not even make it on the bench. Reason was, there where better and fitter players with less of an attitude than him. (And of course, Manchini is an idiot...) However, the only time he plays regularly and for the length of a match, is when he plays for Switzerland. I also worry that he might not be able to keep up with the high pace and the speed of Premier League Football. In Switzerland, Germany and Italy, football is played a lot slower and is strongly dominated by tactics rather than speed. Its less physical as well.
Also, I am not sure how he fits in his new environment at Stoke. Shaqiri is not really known for his modesty: When he arrived at Inter Milan, he was celebrated as their savior - and he really enjoyed that role and kept saying, that he's the guy to bring back success to the club, and how he can decide a game all on his own... Not sure how you guys in stoke react to such crap.
Anyway, I don't want to spoil the party and I really hope Shaqiri will rock the Premier League! Just dont be surprised if he doesn't.

Sound a bit like Arnie when he first joined. Not worked out too badly there though.
Right place, right manager, right team mates - the guy will be a superstar for us.

I've seen a couple of similar posts to yours (I've tried to ignore them ), but I'm not too concerned. From top to bottom Stoke is a very close knit and united club, I don't think it'll go down at all well if Shaqiri comes in and doesn't buy into that unity. Quite a few players have arrived with similar warnings but they have embraced the Stoke togetherness - I expect Shaqiri will do the same. My only minor concern is whether his talent will live up to the enormous hype, I don't have concerns about his character at all.

Thanks for your points. From my perspective, I would say if Shaqiri sees himself as potentially as good as Messi, Ronaldo and the likes, then this is potentially last chance saloon for him to finally prove that. That sounds drastic for a 23 year old, but here's a player who was once being dubbed the new Messi and things at Bayern and Inter didn't work out. I would say he needs this move a lot more than perhaps people think. This gives him a chance to get regular game time. That said, there are very few teams who support and nurture, hmmmm, how shall we put it, misguided players as much as Stoke. No idea how much you are aware of our history, recent history in fact, we've taken on players like Matthew Etherington, who for example had borderline thrown his career down the toilet in favour of gambling, and got him within inches of an England recall. We took Jermaine Pennant who had lost his way at Zaragoza and got him playing the best football of his career. Arrogance is a little different I suppose, although I would say look at Arnautovic who came with a bit of a reputation for being cocky and has toned it down a bit. Shaqiri will need to control that though, hopefully Sparky can help with that. He will also get plenty of support from Stoke fans (foot in my mouth here on the Oatcake), we will give him time to impress. We don't expect a hat trick on his debut. If he can bring his best form over the course of the season then he will be celebrated. Nobody expects instant success.

I'm not expecting the world straight away.
The lad is still only 23 years old.
But this is the kind of environment that brings the best out of players, so hopefully it will do with Shaq.
He's a definite improvement to the squad and will hopefully start the ball rolling on other high profile signings.
His injury record is an issue, but then again when is it not for a player in modern day football?

Sounds like Arnie and exactly the same I was told about Affelay. Affelay was hated by the rest of the Dutch squad because he would strut around stating that hes a Barca player. We are going to have some very big EGOs at Stoke now. Im sure Jonny Walters will bang a few heads and get them into line. Confidence is a good thing, but arrogance and lack of willingness to defend and track back will quickly see you out of a Mark Hughes team. Mark Bowen has already warned Shaqiri about this so Im not worried at all
