I hope he's not playing wide because he is gash as a wide player
He might have improved his overall game under Hughes but I have seen no improvement as a wide player. He's delivered 3 decent crosses all season, and I've not seen him beat a full back for pace yet.
Otherwise yes, good that he's fit.

He tries hard when he plays wide but that doesn't mean he's any good. He played well in the few games when he linked with Bojan.

I still don't think he's a great winger but he has been a LOT better there than he was last season.

MH: Jon Walters has got a mask to protect his cheek but the decision will be up to Jon. He's had general anesthetic and that can take a while to flush through your system. MH: We don't want to go into a game with question marks over four or five. That's too risky and we saw that last week. Jon's only just had the mask but I'm sure there have been a few jokes already ... He's an honest guy and we'll get an honest answer to see if he's fit to play.

Be good if we won tomorrow, and Jon got the winner. You can just read the headlines. Zorro strikes again!

SJW destroys any full back that hasn't got the physical strength to compete with him . Add that to the help he gives our own full backs and I would say that overall he has had a fairly impressive time on the wing.

While I hope Walters is able to play, it should not be on the basis that he will help cover the fact that Palace have two good wingers. We are the home side - they should be more concerned about Walters playing because he poses a realistic goal threat against them. When will we shed this fear of what other teams can do to us on our patch, and get them thinking about what we can do them? Palace are a decent team and do have pace going forward, so we go and put them under sufficient pressure and score enough goals, that their abilities are secondary. The whole reason Chelski are out of the ECL is because the Rich Man's TP was more concerned about what PSG could do, than what his own team could do.

Nah he clearly is.
The stats (from last season anyway) back it up.
Walters is pretty poor defensively.

SJW has been nothing less than magnificent on the flank this season.
He has utterly destroyed full back after full back (most of them highly rated). They leave the pitch a sorry and battered mess.
He has become the new Mama with our long balls forward aimed at him. He rarely loses a challenge in the air and holds the ball up for others to join the attack.
His sheer physical presence and non-stop running scares the life out of opponents and since LMH has arrived he has become one of our most effective operators.

He's had a good season but as a wide player, he's only effective against a certain type of full back. He should be played through the middle more often than not. His effectiveness wide is inconsistent at best.
