AlanNixon @reluctantnickomorning Nicko, is it true that Kono will be in Stoke this week to finalise move and that we want Deulofeu instead of AfellayOnly know Konoplyanka thing looking good. Not aware of other two. Also want Cattermole. But that's expensive. Cattermole would be a very good addition. Sunderland 150 apps 50 yellow cards 5 red cards, 14 yellow 0 red this season so despite his reputation, would not reduce us to 10 men often but would strengthen defensive midfield. All depends on price

I know this sounds really bizarre but was thinking earlier; do you think there's a chance people at the club are purposely linking us to bigger stars (Kono/Shaqiri) in order to help us gain more live sky matches (bringing in extra revenue)? The games are decided upon the start (before the start maybe?) of the transfer window so have to anticipate any big potential signings i.e. Bale to Man Utd or something. With this in the mind, they may take an extra game off of someone like West Ham. Clubs may see this as an opportunity to push out certain rumours in order to look favourable for sky match listings. If that makes sense? I probably haven't explained it particularly
Not sure how it all works, just a thought.

The money paid out based solely on TV appearances is comparatively small so I don't think that's the case. We are getting linked with the likes of Konoplyanka et al because that is the standard of player necessary to move us to the next level

What a backwards signing. Decent player but refs would be queing up to send him off if he signed for us.

I really cannot see how Cattermole would improve us, I don't even think he's any better (or worse) than Whelan. For me, It's a waste of a wage if we sign him and we should be looking at a better calibre of player, He can look forward to another relegation fight with the delusionals.

If you are Cattermole, you are weighing up your options after the last two relegation focused seasons. you are also looking at your own team without a manager and no real direction. I think this is a wise move by Stoke. My guess is that It would not take much to turn his head right now. Cattermole is one of those players who does know what it takes to win a Premiership game and with our foreign contingent growing, another grounded player is no bad thing and another player to maintain the tough spine to the team.

Bar one the Sunderland players we sign are shite, avoid them like the plague.

There's just some nagging doubt I have with Cattermole. He's a better footballer than many give him credit for, with the lazy stereotyping of the old british bulldog type tackler with nothing else to his game - obvious bollocks. The lad can play.
I just get the feeling he's a massive part of the problem at Sunderland, aswell as part of the solution every April. Just a hunch.

I think we should stay well clear of signing Cattermole and don't think he's the quality addition that Hughes is supposedly looking to bring in to the Club.
We must surely be able to attract better than him.

Cattermole's Sunderland's best player - suspect our hopes of signing him went with them staying up.

I don't count Higgi, we virtually just loaned him to them for a season and they didn't have the time to ruin him. Lawrence-I completely forgot he ever played for them! Delap is the one I was thinking of. Tommy had years at another club to rinse away the stench of wearside. So that's 2.

That should have been the death knell on any player from Sunderland. Danny Collins has been done a dis-service, afetr all he's the only one to have had a film named after him, and played by Pacino to boot. Mind you Sorro did come close with Zorro.

So it's 3 Higgi definitely doesn't count, we knew what we were getting. The same goes for Delap and Lawrence thinking about it, try before you buy should be the way forward with this lot but nothing over 18 months (KJ).

We won't sign trippier with 2 right backs at the club, 1 of which has just signed a new contract and 1 signed less than 12 months ago.

Geoff said he wanted to play CM/CB. Perhaps he could 'officially' be back up for Whelan if we do sign Trippier.
