People have no patience. It's taken several years to get where we are, it's been pretty much one step at a time, but the trajectory is all good. If we can kill off the bottom feeders like we failed to do last year, 6th or 7th position should be easy peasy next season. As long as we can keep hold of Hughes, and people like Zonz, and injuries are kinder to us than last year, we will soon be contenders. It doesn't have to all happen this week. Can you blame people though when the CEO is practically promising we will sign a player like Shaqiri? I don't think we ever will, nothing to do with patience here, just down right pessimism! We have an excellent side but that means nothing really when you're competing with Inter, Roma, Atletico, Sevilla etc. Most Stoke fans (any with any sense anyway) would pick them over us! The signing of crouch was probably significant in moving us up the "serious club" rankings After that possibly Bojan was the next step. The club seem to think or know that we need to up the anti in a marketing and playing staff sense by signing another big name that the non-thinking press and non-stoke supporting public wouldn't expect possible I think they are right and I'm confident that we will do something surprising this summer. Bojan I still think is classic dog's home, we were by far his best option after he'd stagnated/been poor for 3 years! That's the sort we should be targeting again and no doubt we are. And I hope to God they do but players like Shaqiri should be at better clubs than Stoke!

Now hold on Bayern, mate this time you have gone too far! Sevilla is not the same level as those clubs you have mentioned. Financially they are not even in our class. Kono said he wanted to play in England about 18 times in the press. I can't see Sevilla even getting out of the CL group stages TBH. In many ways the lad needs us more than we need him in the sense of pay packet, and playing in England. My only issue with the lad if the big decider for him was Champions League nogga then why has he been saying all along he wants to ply his trade in the Prem? I harbor no illusions I know what is really going on behind the scenes on this one but Stoke's conscience should be clear. At this stage until I see him on a club website holding a shirt I will keep believing. And I have the Football Manager CV to prove it!

I know what you are saying but he trailed off at bayern due to lack of game time & hasn't pulled up any trees at inter, so whilst we all know he's a massive step up for us, he does sort of fall into the awful "dogs home" pigeon hole.

I don't think Scholes was promising that we would SIGN players of a high calibre (nobody, not even he, can guarantee that). I do accept that he said we were fishing in a different class of pool from previous years and nothing wrong with some ambition. I'd never say 'NEVER' about anything and it will be a learning curve for all in the club in dealing with the upper end of the market (players, administrators, managers, owners) particularly where their differing cultures impact on their methods of transfer dealings - there's a considerable difference between Sunderland and Eastern Europe.

Financially they can compete and in terms of club size they're lightyears ahead of us. They're in the Champions League.... They've won the Europa League two years in a row. We're a small fish compared to Sevilla. I'm not blaming Stoke in the slightest except that we don't overly need Konoplianka but other than that we seem to have done everything but the inevitable has happened.

I agree about our hopes but are you saying that we are not man enough to accept disappointments without being mardarses? Is it not sad that giving supporters hope and excitement can be deemed 'dangerous' in the event that it does not happen? I hope there won't be riots in the streets of Fenton, Heron Cross and Blurton (my old patch!)

I'd rather that TS was bugging us up than saying we're a small club who don't deserve players like Shaquiris I'll leave that to the press.

I think on the whole we're a big bunch of fannies (on the Internet at least across this place, Twatter and the Facebook groups). Hope is always dangerous, I like no hope, it makes things feel better.

Played us for what? Do you really think this type of player will receive one offer from a club like us and sign straight away? He's bound to have options and it's up to him and his family and his people to find the best deal. One thing is for sure, if he signs for Stoke City it will be for the money only. The other clubs in for him have more to offer on the pitch. Would you be happy with that? Well this comment sums up the attitude of most people these days . It's not just relevant in football . Money money money . That's all that fucking matters , and what it can buy . This whole episode and attitude sickens me . It's what's wrong with football and life in general . Some people's pockets are never full . In any field where quality really matters, the prospective employee should have the say. I'd rather have a guy with his head on straight trying to get the most out of the world then someone looking for prestige and notareity. If you want champions league by merit, then work hard for it. I'm more inclined to like a guy watching out for his than a guy who will sit on the bench and gain a token at the end of a season. Sorry your feeling sick, hope that gets better.

Yeah was done days ago, I'm wanting to bring up the infamous JSU post again stating to expect good news or the numerous posts from SLP stating it's a done deal and that he had a medical 5 weeks ago in the Ukraine but I can't be arsed. .

Didn't happen with Joselu because he wasn't a big name IMO.

Strange though that if it was a done deal his agents and him would have spent time in Madrid. I'm not so sure. So what happened with the medicals for Shaquiri and Badu did they take place?

As I'm pretty sure they will bring up your posts from earlier claiming Shaq. was a done deal when he decides to either stay & fight for his place at Inter or signs elsewhere.
Sure none of us can wait for the upcoming war of pot & kettle.

The employer always has the choice . It's their money to do as they wish . You can still have a clear hardworking vision without having the desire to extract every last squirt of water out of that sponge . That's the problem here ....They're not satisfied with £75,000.....they want £80,000 . They don't want to drive a normal car ....they want a Ferrari. They don't want to live in Biddulph Moor ....They don't want to send their kids to the local school ...they don't want to go shopping in Aldi ...they don't want to wear normal clothes .... They don't want a normal woman ....they want one that ...... ........and so the classic stereotype is formed .
