I have e a mate who is a W Brom supporter who was at the opposite end of the ground to us today and he said ;
He and all around him were impressed by our applause for Jeff Astle.
I am old enough to remember him. He could head a ball !!

Thanks to those fellow Stokies who went yesterday and applauded.
I lived in Brum during the late 60s and if I couldn't get to a Stoke match, I'd often go the the Hawthorns or Molineux to watch Astle or "the Doog". Jeff was a great player who could head brilliantly and shoot like our own Ritchie and was tremendous value for money for any appreciative spectator.

Jest Astle = West Brom legend! I can remember Huw Johns getting very excited about him and 'Bomber' Brown on Star Soccer. Astle scored the only goal in the first FA Cup final I can ever remember watching (v Everton).

Amid rivalry there is still scope for unity.
Justice for Jeff.

What is the campaign about? I do not know the full details but here goes on what I think I know ! Geoff Astle was a very strong centre forward type player ( not unlike our John Ritchie), who played for W Brom in the 60/70s. As well as having a very strong shot he was an exceptional header of the ball. In those days the ball was considerably heavier than it is today. Years later Geoff developed medical problems related to Brain damage almost certainly caused by what must have been the thousands of time he headed. You really had to see it . Winger down the wing, cross the ball with Astle coming in at speed and BANG like a bullet. our own john Ritchie was similar. PS We always used to beat them then to, or maybe my memory is being selective!

Without being cynical.. surely there isn't a group of fans in the PL that are low enough not to join in? I know Villa actually put it on their screen at their home game in the cup.

Sadly, you are wrong. The Stoke participation in the 9th minute applause , was better than the majority of the Greed League visitors. A better explanation of the reason for our clapping is contained here....http://justiceforjeff.co.uk/index.php/aboutthecampaign/12-about/22-faq Thanks again to all who joined in.
