Not this summer but I have a feeling that we will have an amazing season next year and we will lose all our players after that. Bit like Southampton last summer? could happen.

The summer we lost Sonko was hard. He had proven to be excellent at being loaned out to clubs and helping to get them relegated. Ultimately though, we had become established and no longer were in need of guaranteeing 1 of the 3 relegation spots.

However... Not playing European football: Check Not winning trophies: Check Not one of the high profile teams: Check Not very high wage payers: Check if you were one of our top players, interesting bigger clubs, there is quite a lot that could tempt you away. To be fair, our profile is increasing week on week at the moment. Even had SJW on Talksport chatting with Durham and Goughy yesterday. Now if that's not big time, then spank my arse and call me pwingy. come here pwingy, SLAP, wobble, SLAP, wobble ...

Need to be careful here. My fellow yank, Hartzchoco is already a nervous wreck over the thought of Sparky leaving. The thought of Bego and Nzonzi leaving may send him over the top. Come to think of I haven't seen him on the board this morning. More seriously, it seems to me that Bego would keep his options open and wait to see what's available in the summer. Everton will almost likely survive but it's not a given. I'd be very sorry to see him go but it won't be the end of the world. We have a promising but relatively untried replacement in Butland who will almost certainly leave if Bego stays.

Got a feeling that Beggo will be off. If he doesn't sign an extension then I would assume he'll become nbr 2 behind Butland. But if he signs an extension then Butland will no doubt want to leave the season after. In which case we would have to invest in another keeper. Therefore, I assume that we'll sell Beggo, promote Butland, use a bit of the cash on a backup and still make a hefty profit. Butland would then sign a new contract and his resale value would increase significantly. The other alternative being that Beggo signs a new contract and we sell Butland for a decent amount instead. Either way, we can't keep both happy and I presume that Butland will be looking at which direction his own career is heading with the limited opportunities he's getting. Agree with this Maybe a more telling part of his comment, is him wanting to win things, yet MH did not include him in our Cup games? We will never know if hr would have been selected for the later rounds but, I believe that we would have kept Butland in goal I think he will move on from us

This should be the summer where Stoke should be adding world class, key players. The manager has proven himself and so worthy of a decent transfer budget and the TV revenue has increased sizably, meaning top class players should be more affordable and some of the aging players, or with certain deficiencies in their skill-sets, such as speed or tackling ability etc, should have players brought in to compete for their place. Inevitably, there are players Stoke will lose, who will need replacing too, but I'd be surprised if Stoke don't start next season with a stronger squad than this season. Everything is in place for that to happen.

I think Bego will stay.
He would definitely improve Liverpool and Arsenal, but both Rodgers and Wenger are so obsessed with possession statistics that they wouldn't want a keeper with less than excellent kicking skills, such as Bego.
Man Utd, Spurs, Man City and Chelsea already have good goalkeepers with age on their side, and Bego is now too old to be signed as one for the future.
That leaves Villa, Everton and Newcastle as the clubs bigger than us who may try to pinch him, but they are hardly a step up at the moment, and not looking any more likely to win trophies.
So unless he goes abroad, which is anyone's guess, I figure he'll stay and become a legend in the Gordon Banks category.

Didn't Bego give an interview a week or so back which suggested he wanted to stay and win things at Stoke if at all possible? I'd always assumed until then that he would be off this summer but that interview changed my opinion somewhat. I suppose, just as every player has his price as far as the club is concerned, every player considers wages as well as other factors when he decides whether to extend a contract. But Bego's interview certainly didn't sound like a bloke who was actively seeking to leave nor someone who would make the size of the weekly wage the most significant factor in his contract negotiations. I think there is a good chance that he'll stay although we must accept that, if he does, that raises problems about keeping Jack Butland who will have joined us in the expectation of playing Premier League football sooner or later. Not sure he really said anything you wouldn't expect him to have said, Forny?I think if he did re-sign, it'd only be with a clause allowing him to talk to certain teams who offer a certain (lowish) fee? As has been said in the past, there are probably only a handful of teams who'd fit the bill in offering him regular football at an elite club and one of them has got to decide he's their man. Liverpool have got to be a threat although Mignolet has improved a bit, Arsenal still haven't nailed the position down, Real Madrid have been mentioned, as have JuventusIf the fee has scared them off in the past, it probably wouldn't do this summer as our leverage would be much reduced and he just isn't going to turn down one of that lot, is he? Bego at Liverpool? I think I just threw up in my mouth.

United can afford to lose stupid money on players that under perform (Anderson). They just replace them (Herrera) and it doesn't put the club in a hole when they sell the player for a major loss. If Di Maria can't hack the Premier League or can't settle in the English climate, he'll just get replaced and United will use it's squad depth to play someone else (Young, Januzaj ...). It's not a worry really. You always want new signings to do well, but when they don't, there should be a strong enough squad to cope.

If the owners are determined to see through their self sufficiency strategy then we will always have to sell one of our assets to balance the books. Just out of interest how many clubs in the Prem are genuinely self sufficient and maintain their Prem status without stacking up huge debts?

Lets look at Stoke: Solid Prem team : Check. Well run financially: Check. Good manager and staff: Check. Paying good wages: Check. Buying quality players: Check. Good ground with sound fan base: Check. Looking to expand: Check. Play attractive football: Check. Profile growing every season: Check. On the verge of something special: Check. Why leave the grass is not always better. Unfortunately 95% of players need the following criteria met: - Trophies - Money The only player I really worry about it is N'Zonzi based on the past, I think Bego's stock may have fallen, if nobody came in last summer after the season he had I'm quietly confident teams will not meet our valuation of the player. New contracts would be great though.

I was discussing Stoke, but responded to someone who replied to my post, who was sniping about United, solely because I'm a United fan. If you don't like to read certain posts, don't! It's not freaking mandatory, so piss off yourself!

You have to ponder who would be interested in which players. If you take someone like N'Zonzi, would he be guaranteed first team football at any club above us?. Arsenal, Spurs, Man city, and Chelsea are all overflowing with midfield players. The only realistic option is probably Southampton. But would they want to offer big money for him when they could bring someone through the academy or look for a bargain from abroad?. That's true, he wouldn't get into any side above us aside from maybe Southampton, but they wouldn't be much (if any) of a step up so no reason for him to leave. Then again, if it's money he wants then he could go to Newcastle, Everton or Sunderland in the hope that they'll compete better next season. Much more concerned with him leaving for a club on the continent. He easily could be tempted by the promise of champions league football in Italy or France. Honestly never looked at the wages there so not sure of that comparison.

Even we owe a few bob but nothing like the gazillions other clubs are in hock for....... But as other posters have commented, we are one of, if not THE best financially run club in the laegue, and in this day and age thats a commendable achievement.
