Don't know if this is a dig at the commentators or Rooney or both tbh, Watching the Man U Sunderland game last night the commentators said something along these lines (not exactly but near enough) " Rooney has only scored 2 goals in open play since Boxing Day" then he scores the pen, then when he scored the header it's...."look at Rooney making sure he stays onside as the ball comes in, that's the sign of a WORLD CLASS STRIKER"!?!.....eh????
He's fcuk in toss, had 2 good seasons when he was 18, I still can't get over him being England and the shit captain and if that is the case what does that make crouchy? Better than Rooney and lambert that's for fuckin sure and not in the England squad..

But he's been 1 of the best for England for a long time.

Nowhere near world class in my opinion. Domestically he's been superb in the past but internationally he's been garbage at major tournaments.

If you were judging harshly you'd have to question his international tournament record.

He could've been a world class striker when you think of what he was like when he first broke into the England team. You held your breath when he picked up the ball and took players on. Unfortunately for the nation though he couldn't handle the stardom or money or whatever and became the granny shagging fat wasted talent we all know and hate

You two are idiotic to say the least. World Class, simple as that... Look at his goal record Last 5 seasons goals the 5th being this season Rooney 96 Messi 265 Ronaldo 257 There are so many forwards/attacking players better than Rooney, I cant be arsed to add more stats up. Would you prefer in your team Rooney or Lewandowski, Suarez, Neymar, Aguero, Benzema, Sanchez, Immobile, Mandzukic, Bale, Robben...? Wayne Rooney is not, has never been, and never will be world class. Unless I'm missing some sarcasm, the only idiot here is you iwebbyyy.

What makes me laugh is when he puts his pens away and then with arms aloft, awaits the adoration of the masses as if he has just scored a worldly! I cannot remember the last time I've seen him do anything special but it's not just his fault is it?There are so many arse licking pundits and journos who refer to him as a world class, the only worry is he and many others believe he is!

I don't think he would be in the starting line up for any of the top international teams and certainly would not make it into the likes of Real, Bayern or Barca squads.
He looked to have great potential as a kid, unfortunately the only thing that has grown since his move to United is his bank balance and hair.

When you play in a very good team you will get more opportunities to score than elsewhere.
Scores a few worldies but so does Cameroon jerome
A good player not world class he has never moved on from when he burst on the scene.
He is very lucky to have been played for England neat every game when fit and never been dropped when his form demanded it. He gets charltons record by default as being able to score against the minnows in friendlies and qualifiers

Only in England do football supporters have a constant pop at our best players. He may not be world class or as good as Messi etc but the facts are he will be England's all time high scorer and he is one of our best ever players.
As for mentality, you don't perform at a massive club like Man Utd consistently well for 10 years if you're not mentally strong.
To be honest this thread is typical of supporters in this country, vitriolic bile based on nothing but jealousy and nothing to do with football.

It's not him I mind, it's the constant bollocks spouted by 'pundits' - we have a history in this country of bigging up just above average players and it gets on everyone's tits. The fact that he plays for the shit doesn't help of course but he has a good record and let's face it if he had a sudden conversion away from the dark side and signed for us we'd all love him

First player to score 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive seasons? Van Gaal says he doesn't have a 20 goal a season striker yet Rooney averages 20.6 per season. For most of his career he's played as a number 10 and still scored over 200 goals for his club.
This season he's playing CM and is Uniteds leading goal scorer in the peen. Hes a very very good player that gets slated too much.

Absolutely is world class, what does it take to be world class then I ask? Has he performed on the international stage... 101 game 46 goals Has he performed at club level... 330 games 168 goals Does he perform in the big games? The cup finals? Yes. Consistently.
So he has had a shit 2015 in CM, go figure, he's a fucking striker being played out of position. People's judgements on here are so easily clouded by a bit of bad form, or that they don't like the club or the player but you can't look at his statistics and say he isn't world class because he simply is. Chelsea were willing to pay £50 million for him last summer for a reason
