"We're picking up a good number of points & doing that despite losing players through injuries. That shows how strong our group is." "Top teams & top players bounce back very quickly. It's dangerous to say that this is a good time to play them." "The onus will be on us to try & take the game to them, & that is exactly what we'll be looking to do." "We won't just be aiming for 40 points & then easing off once we hit that figure - that isn't what we're about. We want to move forward and finish in a better position than we did last season." I really, really like this bloke.

Yep, he's certainly got his 'head screwed on'!
And for what it's worth I think we will finish higher and get more points than we did last season.

I like him he puts the bar high, gives the players few excuses to hide or fail.
TP used to play into there hands bordering on flying the white flag sometimes which as we all know gives polayers excuses not to perform.

Remember a famous ex manager, commenting on yet another spineless 3-0 defeat saying "give me £ 200m and I'll take a team there capable of giving them a game" or words to that effect. I nearly smashed my radio up listening to that particular post match interview.

Think I'm going to bin this thread. I rather hoped we could have a discussion about the Stoke City manager, not West Brom's.

Also, we should invest significantly in the Brit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again TP stayed one season too long, he was right for the initial premier league era and now MH is right for this era.
The subtle difference between the two is Hughes teams in the main have had me more excited about the way we play and I look forward to every game I see.
Hughes hasn't yet made a bad signing everyone (bar a player who has been injured until very recently,Teixeira) has made a contribution.
Finally it's the media work and the aura he has that's differentiates the two. TP disliked the whole "media thing" until he was out of work whereas Hughes always gives eloquent answers and is permanently positive in his words again unlike TP.
TP however cannot be matched in his charity work for this area which continues and he deserves great credit for that, as for many other things that go without saying.
I still reiterate that he stayed one season too long and made me dislike his ways and watching my team which never should have happened to his legacy as far as I'm concerned. I'm so glad we don't play like that anymore.

Personally I would add shares to Hughes remuneration package next time around with maybe the possibility of a seat on the board in the longer term.
Eloquent, positive, seemingly a respecter of the values of the club, well regarded in the game and the media, after he tires of stress of full-time hands on management and training he could move upstairs and in the post PC era give denise and john some extra help in the football department and generally be the public face of the club.
Just an idea
.
