I bet bego received more passes today than anyone on the pitch, it's nice to see us play out from the back, rather than the big hoof, but we are passing the ball to bego from the halfway line at times

The only comforting thing is even the bigger teams like Liverpool, united, arsenal etc do it. If it means keeping possession and not handing it back then fine. My only problem is when we're on the edge of their box or if there's an obvious pass forward on.

to be honest ( i know i'll get stick for this ) Whelan was the biggest culprit of back passing today, i think i saw him go forwards 4 times and 1 of those was a free kick

Agree though he and nzonzi first half did nothing but. They must have had a bollocking at half time because nzonzi decided to get involved more. Still 100% sure we will have a new 2 centre midfielders for the start of next season.

We're not Chelsea, Arsenal or Man United. We can't go to away grounds and dominate games.
We're having more possession and at times that possession will see us go sideways or backwards. That helps keep the ball away from opponents, frustrate them and their fans and gives us a better chance of success away from home.
And it's working. Our away record this season will be the best since we were promoted.

We are overly negative. That was evident from the moment we went behind.Immediately we were quicker to take throw ins, goal kicks etc, players were trying to make things happen and eventually it did,we got the equalizer. Then we went straight back to our previous way. There's keeping possession and there's getting to the half way line, turning 180 degrees and passing it backwards. It's a bit like watching the old Pulis team.
Everything about our play upto the equaliser was lethargic.....and it often is.We've become pretty boring to watch, especially away but it's getting points so I'm sure Hughes will say it's the right way as you get nothing for being pretty

Whelan needs to look up and pass forwards. Bloody good player though.

I do like Whelan but if we need to move on to the next level NZonzi needs a new partner in CM.

Agree with the general point here, Dave, but there were a few occasions today when we had the numbers advantage and momentum yet sent it backwards...

I don't mind it unless there is an easier and more obvious forward pass available, which is often the case.

I actually agree in principal to this but today was just too much , we were lucky to get away with such wastefulness , it was negative against a poor newcastle team it has to be said !

Our away record this season will be the best since we were promoted. I agree that our away form is way better than it ever was under TP and this year even more so. However, I will never agree that keeping possession to frustrate the opposition is a better tactic than keeping possession to score. We recycle the ball backwards too often when equal (attacking) alternatives are on offer. Our midfield does not have the vision, confidence, skill, inclination to move the ball forward quickly...choose any of the reasons mentioned. In general I can't argue with our away performances ..I just think we miss the opportunity on occasions to be a little more adventurous.

It's either that or hopelessly hoof the ball up when nothings on and pretty much hand over the possession.

Too often our forward players are static and there simply isn't a forward ball on.

We keep the ball and as said gets past back to Bego , who then drills it forward and inevitably gives away possession. The point of passing it back is?
