Bell gone. 300 will be good. But will 300 be enough?

Well - that's how to lose a game. A wide from a short pitched ball that goes for 4.
Is that England's worst ever ODI defeat?
Got to be up there.
Abject.

There's losing a game of cricket at the MCG to the much fancied co-hosts comfortably and then there's this.
Positively stunned by the manner of this defeat. All done and dusted in less than an hour's worth of play in the 2nd innings. Finn 0-49 off 2?

Guys I'm currently in my hotel room in downtown wellington still baffled by what I've seen this afternoon. You know it's bad when the barmy army are dead. Disgusting performance and some serious sackings need to take place first thing tomorrow morning. Scandalous and fully deserved everything we got. Scotland have every chance of beating us. Don't think the NZ fans could believe how shit we are. One described the side as "cowards". Sums it up. Fuck off Moores you clueless cunter. That said NZ is absolutely beautiful. My first time here and it's an amazing part of the world with a near perfect climate. Anyone coming here I'd strongly reccomend a few days in Auckland and a trip to Piha beach and the stunning waitekere ranges (they call this rainforest heaven for a reason). I'm off to see wellington phoenix reserves tomorrow in the nz premier League (asb) as tomorrow will be my only chance to catch some footy!! I'm surprised the hapless Dave Kemp hasn't been out here on one of his international scouting missions.

After this World Cup, England really need to start from scratch, new one day coach, new one day captain, young one day specialist cricketers. England can't go on the way they are, they are just going backwards.

Embarrassing, abject, pathetic, spineless, arrogant. Just some of the words I'd use to describe our 50 over team at the moment. It might piss it down during the break I suppose (what a ridiculous rule that they have to go off for a break 12 runs from victory) I'm absoloutely speechless .......

England can't go on the way they are, they are just going backwards. Starting with the sacking of the entire ECB. Remember the Ashes schedule was revised to allow England time to prepare for this WC. And what preparations they made. We arrived at this World Cup with a brand new captain, unsure of our batting order, no frontline spinner and a pace attack that's coming apart at the seams. Moores out for sure. But get shot also of that clown Downton.

Downton was an odd appointment , a relic from the past (like me) , he's been too long away from the modern game to be forward enough looking .....an establishment appointment , nothing more

Well, bloody 'ell. Woke up, put Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on to see how we were doing. I guess I was a bit optimistic there! It does feel like over the last 18 months (since sometime during the Aussie tour of England) we've turned from being a pretty decent cricket team, to a team reminiscent of the England team of the dark times of my youth - when we were looked on as a bit of a joke (remember all the digs at the England cricket team on pretty much any comedy show on TV/radio in the '80s?). In a year where we've seen the emergence of some bloody good cricketers (Root, Ali, Butler, Balance) just how the hell has it turned to shit? My hope is - Australia were in a similar position not so long ago. Their national team was a joke following their defeat in India (done your homework chaps?). Lehmann came in and turned them around. We need something similar. Anyway, I only held out a tiny hope for the WC. Following the tour of Sri Lanka and the tri-nations series, I clung to the hope that if a few of the team could start getting some form, we could perhaps, sneak to the semi's - and then who knows. But it's clear the cricket the top nations are playing is from a different planet to us. People have been saying it for a long time, but if that didn't hammer it home, then we may as well pack it all in. Final word - fear. It's what seems to stop our players playing (and we do have some bloody decent cricketers despite today's performance). The absence of it seems to allow the likes of McCullum to compete like he does. Where does this fear come from?

Fear ......Well the media don't help , whether it be the broadcasters ( ex players who are withering in their constant carping criticism from the commentary box ) and the press, are players from any other teams under such pressure from the media ? ....the role of England Captain is a red hot chalice to drink from , should be the best job in cricket ....but one to be avoided for your own sanity !....Fear of failure , fear of your place in the team if you fail after a couple games ...who knows? But England seem to suffer from it more than anyone else .

Moores out, should never have been given the job in the first place I agree with that ......who do you think should have got the job ? .......and who should get it now ? Not a clue Bish, my cricket knowledge is not good enough to know who would be the right man to lead us forward, but I do know enough to know that Moores was never the man for the job! I can't believe how it's all turned to shit, it only seems like two minutes ago we were no.1 in the world and seemed to have the world at our feet. Then it all fell apart at the seams, Flower, Pietersen, Trott, Swann......I just hope we can turn it around soon, just like the Aussies have seemed to manage.

As the world's moves on with cricket English cricket gets left in the dark ages.
We have this crazy fixation with first class cricket played over 4 days in front of half a dozen oaps.
Should we embrace the new more exciting formats of cricket that generate excitement, revenue, larger crowds and captures the the younger audience and make this the focal point of the cricket season. Neh let's carry on playing laborious tedious unpopular format in front of a handful of grandads. Why because we're British we invented the game and everyone else is wrong.

To be fair mate neither do I ......but it needs to be someone who is a breath of fresh air , re-appointing Moores was a strange and negative thing to do .....I would like to see someone who has recent experience on the playing side , and is receptive to the way the game has changed in the last year or two ....who is open to speculation ?.....Flower was the best coach we have had in years , he perhaps got to embroiled in it and something had to give , hence the Pietersen situation , a great pity .....as to Trott don't be surprised if he is not back in the set up before too much longer ....perhaps as Test Match opener alongside Cook ?

There's not many of us here in Wellers, certainly not as many as there should be. And I promise to try and not mention the cricket... much.
