Yep, in the 70's opposition keepers were always applauded to the Boothen. The applause was huge and the keepers responded and acknowledged it. Most of it at the Vic ( we were not the only fans to do it) stemmed from us always having great keepers, world class keepers, and in Banks the best there was. All got applauded and yes, there was mockery but most of the applause was genuine. I believe it's still there.
Now we have a world class keeper in AB, wouldn't it be nice if Stoke fans once again lead the way (yes, we were pretty inventive on the terraces back then you know) in reviving this spirit. It's part of our heritage as a club and we were known and respected for it. Instead of following like sheep we should take the lead, think bigger cus we ARE bigger. Next time at the Brit, get them paws out and show some respect, it'll warm the cockles i guarantee.

Aaahh the good old days !!!! And we also used to give a little round of polite applause when the enemy scored back then! (1960s/1970s) Yes - we did! I applauded that Valencia goal against us - I just couldn't let it pass by unacknowledged.

Most keepers acknowledge the applause, Green didn't. Well after what the others said used to happen, there's no wonder he didn't acknowledge it!

Applauding the opposition is completely gaye. Anyone doing it should have their arse handed to them on a plate. If they were gay, they'd enjoy that though.

I was at Blackpool v Brighton this weekend. Dont ask.
I was quite shocked at how friendly their fans were to each other. The Brighton fans joined in with the anti-Oyston chants and also applauded when Blackpool made two subs.
I found it weird.

It used to be that the keeper was given a clap then when he applauded back he got a tirade of abuse!!!! I always found that funny when stood on the Boothen - childish I know!!! I remember that too Pugs. The old timers were a bit wiser, but a few keepers acknowledged the applause running down to The Boothen and then were told in no uncertain terms where to go by a few thousand. Very amusing.
Also remember the old goal kick routine. Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh YOU'RE SHIT Aaaaahhhhhhh
Loved it. Should be part of the home crowd's job to unsettle a keeper.

Back in the day, I can remember Anfield's Kop always giving Banksy a rousing ovation, genuine respect.
