This can't be right, there were people on here telling us he needed to be sacked the other week. I demand a recount!

"Like Allardyce, Hughes has reinvented his team’s style and brought stability to the club. The difference? He’s done it on much less money, and without big changes to the squad. Stoke counter-attack with flair, Bojan was turning into one of the signings of the summer before his cruel injury, and yet they’re still as hard to beat as they were under Tony Pulis."

Some astute comments in the article. Shame it is not building more responses. Everyone concentrating on the latest Pulis thread. Sad.

Selfishly, I'd prefer that he didn't get the credit he deserves for the excellent job he's doing here, because I can't see us being able to appoint a comparably good manager if he left.

Whilst Hughes is defo top 5 and I woouldnt argue with 2nd there are some very peculiar placings in that list.

Mark Hughes is doing a brilliant job and I am struggling to see what there is "NOT" to like about him in all honesty.
His teams are sent out to try and play positively in whatever style is necessary, he speaks positively about our club and our players, no game is given up before we've even kicked a ball, he praises the work done by the previous regime, his interviews post match actually bear a reflection of what we've all seen and generally he's like a breathe of fresh air.
Long may it continue.
He's doing a fine job, building on the good work of the previous manager whilst also addressing some of the problems he inherited from him as well.

He needs a 3 year extension on his current contract pretty damn quick.

I think that with that point PWingy we have finally come full circle and Hughes is in exactly the same position as Pulis was on this board - bring on the next manager!!!

What's this thread got to do with pulls anyway? It's thread about what an excellent job Mark Hughes is doing a thing that every Stoke fan should be happy about. Obviously not though.
Oh and momo I pressume I have a shit picture filter on my phone as the (obviously funny) thing you posted won't show.

Hope he sticks around for another 5 years at least. I think we need a new 3 year plan to push the club forward. We are basically hitting the glass ceiling right now with what we can expect to achieve in the league with the current level of investment.
The fact is that standing still inevitably leads to decline. We should be aiming for regular European football within 3 years even if it seems far fetched at this moment. Hughes has ambition and we need to match it

I was a hughes hater at first thinking he was goin to take us back a step but only after a month or 2 of his reign I saw the light and have loved every minute of him being in charge, his signings have been great for good money and hes reinvented players like glen, nzonzi and shawcross has really made big improvements aswell. He has bin a great manager for us and I hope hes here for a very long time.

Hopefully with the success he's having he'll want to stay! I Wasn't thrilled when we initially announced him as our manager, I think like many I'd been given a false impression of Hughes. A cracking manager and one that is capable of taking us to the next level and beyond. Goarn Hughesy Lad!

I agree with every word you say, Dave. But he also brings dignity and gravitas to the club, he dresses smartly, he doesn't shriek "Go aaarn Jon" every game and he generally appears a firm manager who takes no shit from the players.. Worth whatever he is being paid.

I was one of Tony Pulis's staunchest defenders, but I totally agree that Mark Hughes has done a brilliant job.
We've played some lovely football, have the strongest squad I've seen since the mid seventies and some brilliant individual flair players.
If anything, this season has been a bit frustrating: those early points we inexplicably lost at home and the bad luck with injuries will make this a season of what might have been. After the big 6, we are as good as anyone, and seem to be in better shape than Everton. I think 8th or 9th is within reach this season which would be another fantastic achievement.
Fully deserved praise for MH though. I just hope we can hold on to him.

Worth whatever he is being paid. You really care what a Stoke manager wears? Christ on a Grifter. He dresses professionally, which is a positive reflection of the club, instead of looking like a chav in a track suit, waiting for his dole cheque, like some managers do. That professional demeanour will have an effect on the level of respect he expects and commands too.

I said three years ago that Mark Hughes was tailor made for Stoke City, but as usual derided.
He's a brilliant manager for us.

I was one of the biggest sceptics in appointing Hughes and was dead against it. He has proved to be a brilliant appointment though and he thoroughly deserves any credit coming his way. Well done Mark, I hope you sign a well deserved new contract. He is developing into one of the best managers in the league; especially for a club like ours which doesn't have an endless pot of money. He inherited a fine backbone if players but is adding exactly the right mix on a budget to get the most out of us.

Also interested to see how low Steve Bruce is on this list.
Wind it back 18 months and their careers were at opposite ends. Bruce had done wonders at Wigan and was starting well at Hull, whilst Hughes was out of work after the debacle at QPR.
Just goes to show how things change so quickly
