Yeah - not sure about that one at all. He's just turned 34 and seems to be 2nd/3rd choice already - and we're all clamouring for another option to come in as first choice striker. Suppose it depends if he's happy to be a fringe player on reduced wages and looks like he possibly is as that was all he was going to be for any club at this level? Do you know that he is on 'reduced wages'? Personally I doubt it. He may be on relatively reduced wages but he signed the last contract nearly 4 years ago and it's become a different world even in that short time. Who knows? Overall, I'm happy to go with whatever Hughes and the bean counters settled on as their compromise figure with the Crouch camp. But I'd be surprised if we thought that he was now worth the 45-50k that he was supposedly on in 2011 as our marquee signing? Back then, presumably we had to go that high to match his Spurs deal (and probably had to throw in a big signing-on fee to make up the difference?) Now we have a 34-yr old striker who probably couldn't get that kind of salary anywhere else and is going to be a fringe kind of option for any Premier League team? Wouldn't have thought Crouchy would have much leverage to demand we match his current wage, but who knows? I'm not suggesting he'll be on a measly (haha) 15-20k but I'd be surprised if he was on the same money.

Good news- plus it means Tone will come wading in with a £10 million offer for both of them.

Great news as both players deserve their contract extensions. Whelan has been a revelation under MH and Crouch brings something different. His contribution defending set plays is often overlooked.

Important deals for the club. Say what you like but Crouchy is still a potential match winner in games such as the one coming up on Saturday and the next round of the cup. For all the whinging about the deal that brought him here he has proved to be an excellent piece of business and well worth the salary paid (as much as anyone is in the PL). I also think he is a major league influence off the field and having his character around can do nothing but good.

Not least since Bojan has been full of praise for Crouchy in helping him over here, he just seems like a top pro to me. With regard to wages we'd have to have pretty much matched anything anyone with a name beginning in Harry or Tony would have been willing to offer him to help dig them out of a hole

Mark Hughes retired as a player at the age of 38. And at the age of 51 he still can strike a ball way better than most

Very pleasing news -
Whelan has been here through it all, to think where we were when he first came to Stoke, where we are now, and incredibly, despite all the money spent, the players and management that has come and gone - he's still a first teamer and vice captain. Absolutely incredible achievement - and what a bargain! Definitely one of TPs best ever signings.
Crouch is such a loveable bloke, seems like an absolutely genuine guy, known across the globe and one I am proud to be representing us and wearing our colours with pride and a smile on his face. He still has plenty to offer too, we'd struggle to replace him for what he brings to the side.

Good news.
We can argue all we want about whether a two year deal for Crouchie is correct but he's still got a big part to play here and the powers that be are happy to commit to it.

I don't see why there's an issue. He had no pace to lose. He is a great player to have at the club and it's the first bit of good news since the injury.

Crouch brings so much good exposure for this club. He is a globally known player. It's a good deal for us As does his wife. Really glad they have both been given new contracts. You need players that understand the ethics of a club for the club to survive. Pass on the traditions if you like. Plus they have both been superb as time has kicked on for the pair of them.

I can see the sense in Whelan, but I'm not really sure about Crouch. I hope he becomes more of a bench option now, though, a Plan B for the last 30 minutes if we need to try something different. Some games require the pace & mobility of Diouf or Walters, other games require the threat that Crouch poses, his ability to hold up the ball and bring others in to play. For me he has a big role to play for us still. He offers something different, rarely has a bad game and is a model pro. He's obviously great to have around the place, has a good media presence and is still amongst the goals. I'm delighted we've secured him for the next two years, it probably means he'll finish his career with us now. Pace & Mobility Walters hmmmm

Both will be important players for us, I can see this summer being a busier window for us as we add more to the wage bill. Although some senior players may leave or become squad rotation and cup players, like these two. Hughes is looking real hard to get in youth and talent all while keeping the depth and experience needed to push on. I like all of his signings so far.

I'm not massively against it at all. He'll be able to contribute. But it'll be interesting to see how much game time he sees, particularly next season and 16/17 if we've got Walters (who's started ahead of him up front in the last 3 games), Diouf, probably Odemwingie and almost certainly a new striker who'll arrive in the summer at the latest.
