I do feel bad for him. He was messed around by bureaucracy - neither his fault or the club's - for twelve months and lost a chunk of his career because of it. Will he get another shot at Europe? Who knows.

This extract was interesting ...
"free agent then had a second pre-deal to join the Potters this month in place, but the move hinged on an investment-based passport application in Cyprus that simply took too long to be approved."
I wonder if the EU passport is they way the Big clubs bend the rules?

Greg Dyke is a COCK

He was clearly going to be a first-team regular in a top 10 club at Stoke. 22 years old US international which would have raised the profile of Premier League football in the biggest potential market the US of A.
Its not quite the same as buying some kid from South America on a punt that he might make it.
Smart move Greg you are a COCK

Just to confirm what I mean in the words of Yoda Dyke, Greg a cock is you are aware that Dyke didn't make the current WP rules and guidelines the FA follow?; it's not the FA that award a WP, it's the Home office?; Dyke has absolutely no place or influence on the WP appeals board? apart from all that, you are correct with the general premise that he's a cock but Agudelo not coming here had absolutely nothing to do with Dyke whatsoever.

Home office give WP very much based on FA's recommendation.

I wonder if the EU passport is they way the Big clubs bend the rules? "It appeared for a while last fall that Agudelo would be granted a Cypriot passport, allowing him to finally become a member of Stoke's squad. However, the small European country eventually became concerned about the bad press they might receive for approving the passport, and precious transfer window time frittered away until the youngster had to change course."
Seems to confirm 100% the Cypriot passport thing? Looks like it's just not meant to be. Can he really have been the first player to try and get round the rules like this?

Home office give WP very much based on FA's recommendation. yes i know but it has sod all to do with Dyke; of they fit the criteria for a WP (which wasn't drawn up by Dyke, in fact he's actively trying to change it) then the FA automatically recommend a WP with no further questions. if they don't fit it then it goes to appeal where Dyke isn't a member of the appeals board and has no involvement or influence over them. like i say, i agree that in general he's a dick but WPs have sod all to do with him. they were rules laid down before he took over and he's been campaigning to try to change them. he doesn't have any other involvement in the issuing of WPs at all and i don't think we're really in a position to complain given the fact we were more than happy to try to "Cheat" the system by getting him to get a Cypriot passport...staggering how "Big" clubs can be slagged off for squeezing other people through by cheating yet when we try it and it doesn't work it's always someone else's fault.

not really, that's simply the paper stating that it came a day or so after Dyke's report of his personal ideas of what he would like to happen. no rules have been changed due to that report as of yet and the appeals panel (who Dyke has no input in) have let others' through on appeal since that report came out, unless you're saying that Dyke intentionally released the report when he did to make sure Stoke didn't get their man (which would be the most paranoid piece of conpsiracy theorising seen on this board in a long time!). the simple fact is that he didn't meet the requirements at all and there was nothing to say/show/prove that he had any reason to be accepted at appeal. for example, when Kramaric was signed recently, the national manager actually WENT to the appeal and said he has every intention of playing him regularly and he is a big part of the national team's plans going forward. we had nothing whatsoever to prove he'd be playing for the US regularly and still nothing even now as he still never gets picked...he's played 3 games since 2012 for the US, 1 in each year...THAT'S IT!!! nothing else so i don't really see how anyone can quibble here. yes there are players like Paulista where it is a joke that he got through but that's EXACTLY what Dyke is trying to change! you're actually agreeing with Dyke as it's HIM (and no-one else at the FA) that wants the rules changed to ensure that there is consistency as to who does and doesn't get through by scrapping the appeal process.....and on that basis Agudelo still wouldn't get through i really wish people would look at fact rather than continuing this "The FA hate us" bollocks!!! you want there to be a fair system to ensure there's consistency and that's precisely what Dyke is trying to do because the rules in place are a farce...it's Dyke that 100% agrees with you on that so why you're saying HE is a dick when it's him trying to sort the problem god only knows

OK, he didn't rip up the league in Holland, granted.
But that said, after all the trials & tribulations that he and the club have been through just to get a shot at it here, I do think it's unfortunate to say the least.
Add to that, our lack of depth up top & out wide with BK & PO being out for the remainder, then the timing would have been perfect for him to get a chance and hopefully make an impact.
Only then could we make an informed judgement of how good he is / could be.
I realise MH Probably made his "£10m" comment in the heat of the injustice off the back of the WP hearing but he has been right with a couple of good 'uns along the way remember.
JA doesn't appear to be saying "never again" though, so sure we'll keep tabs on him.

The answer I got back pretty much sums up what you have said MMLC. A player can only be considered if he has been available for and selected to play in 75% of his national teams games over the previous 2 years. As you say Agudelo clearly hadn't. So even an appeal was pretty futile. The FA couldn't comment on Paulista. I must say though Paulista has never represented Brazil at any level.

If you don't meet the 75% of competitive games for a top 70 nation thing which gets you the automatic permit, it seems to be decided by which side of the bed the panel members got up on? It's pretty hard to argue that the Canadian kiddie Doneil Henry (who is nowhere near to meeting the automatic criteria either) is a demonstrably better prospect than Agudelo, for example. Not that I'm suggesting it happens (and perish the thought!) but it's the kind of vague, grey area that is ripe for brown envelopes.

This "exceptional talent" rule feels like it's been written by one of the pigs in Animal Farm.
It's been up there on the FA blackboard for years, the last of the football commandments: "No overseas player shall get a work permit unless he plays 75 percent of competitive games for a top 70 nation."
One morning the hens ask why Arsenal have been allowed to sign a player who has never played any international games at all, but the minister of propaganda pig tells him to take a closer look at the blackboard, which actually states: "No overseas player shall get a work permit unless he plays 75 percent of competitive games for a top 70 nation or he is an exceptional talent."
It looks as if the last six words have been hastily scribbled at the end, almost as if the minister of propaganda pig has added them himself in the middle of the night: a helpful little tweak to ensure the commandments keep everyone in their rightful place in the pecking order.
