Yep, his game-changing contributions per minute stat must be pretty incredible. Another goal and assist tonight.

We'll need him if Bojans out for a while. A clever player who's far better than some believe.

He was good, I hope he comes good for us should Bojan be out for a while, but let's not forget that he was up against League 1 players so he should have been decent tonight.

Although forced upon him, there was some tactical nous displayed by Hughes with his substitutions. Rochdale were more contained once Ireland and Sidwell were on the pitch.

He has great vision. I feel confident with Ireland in the side we can get goals in the league if Bojan is going to be out for a while.

TBH he really hasn't impressed me in the EPL at all this season. Doing it against non league and league 1 sides in the cup is all well and good but he needs to up his game in the league. Gouranga.

Tidy player.
You're not going get mass amounts from him but he'll pop up with a clever pass or finish now and again.

Yes he and nzonzi are two different players, so are everyone. I just like how he always wants the ball and involved. Great eye for a pass and likes to arrive in the box to score.
Everything I've been waiting for in a midfielder at stoke in years. Just a beast of an enforcer alongside him needed.

Game dynamic changed with him on, great awareness for a forward pass and through ball, arrives late into the box, has a goal in him, always makes himself available to receive the ball. Considering he hasn't had w good run of games for annoying injury, I think he'll get better the more games he plays in my opinion.

Well firstly they are two totally different players that play totally different roles. And also the fact that Steven nzonzi is probably one of the best midfielders this club has had in years

Over nzonzi any day of the week. Gets into great positions going forward as well. Spots a pass as well as anyone. You have to be joking! How can you compare Ireland to Nzonzi? Its about as bizarre as saying Moses over Whelan? They are totally different players and furthermore Nzonzi is top notch. A club of our status will struggle to get a better midfield player than Nzonzi. If we do, he won't be here very long.

We all know ireland plays a little further forward for us but that's not my point. My point is the things he does I listed above. Everything I've been waiting for a midfielder to do for ages watching stoke. he was often in nzonzi's position in the middle of the pitch, spun and threaded through balls for runners. Turns defence into attack very quickly. I really hope he gets a run of games where he will get better and better. we better hope we don't resist one of those massive offers for nzonzi this week.

I like Ireland as a footballer as I've posted elsewhere. He is a very good and very intelligent footballer.
He is never fit enough to get a consistent run in the team and it would sum his time up here, with Bojan likely to be out on Saturday, if he was unavailable for selection due to illness or a niggling injury he picks up on Friday.
The pass that led to Moses goal was sublime and his vision and ability to play in tight spaces is exceptionally good.

I thought he did well. Looked to chase down the opposition more than I've seen him do before which was pleasing.

The problem I see with Ireland is that he's great when he comes on as an impact sub but if he starts games he seems to go missing as the game wears on. A bit like a lot of our 'creative' players I suppose (Bojan excepted) look at Adam, Arnie and ex Stokie Assaidi. They're all bit part players. We're lucky to have found one 'creative' gem who can perform for the vast majority of the 90mins. Shame he's bloody injured now though!
