Its completely mad as the parent would have had to pay whether or not the kid turned up. Bet the mother is pissed off cos her precious darling missed out on another present. what is the middle class world coming to?

You do wonder about people.
It was wrong of the boys parents to say he was going and then not to turn up. To then get their kids picture in the national papers with the usual victim pose, makes me question their sanity.
It was also wrong of the other boys mother to produce a professionalish looking invoice and get the school to put it in the other kids bag.
All in all a set of morons who deserve each other.

the mother should have contacted the boys parents and explained it was rude not to let her know. She could have made her point and kept the high moral ground.
kids parties are a minefield these days. Mine goes to one every other weekend - it's big business.

Agree, they are both as bad as each other. Ban kids parties as well as religion and the country will be a better place

This is down here in Torpoint and all over the local newspaper and BBC. It's pathetic and what happened to the old jelly and ice cream parties with dad doing a few magic tricks. It's all about one-upmanship and it seems the least you can be expected to do is a Mackie Dees party. It's fucking embarrassing.

It might be the most middle-class thing that's ever happened.

According to contract law, the mother of the birthday boy hasn't any right to claim for losses. To claim for losses would be akin to claiming liquidated damages (which are normally set out during consideration of the contract) - but if not, does not affect the suffering party from claiming for actual losses caused.
Those losses are based upon the comparison of after the breach and if the contract had been performed. Had the other kiddy attended, the same costs would have been incurred anyway. So, there is no actual 'loss' suffered.
The most logical response to this would have been a quick text message from the birthday boy's mum to the other kiddy's mum to say "Thanks for letting me know kiddy wasn't coming, daft cunt".

"She didn't treat me like a human being, she treated me like a child and that I should do what she says."
Non-human kids in Cornwall... just as I always suspected.
