The surprising mentals are the best for me, which usually means when a crap team finally gives you a reason to be cheerful.
Kyle Lightbourne v Portsmouth, Mark Devlin v Crewe and Carl Beeston v Newcastle.

Yes - due to the fact I was right behind the goal as Paul Richardson scored & the fact that it was virtually a home game due to about 80% of the crowd being from Stoke!

Mickey Thomas at Bradford night match Bradford scored early after an error by Fox Fox redeemed himself by making save after save after save should have been at least 6.0 to Bradford we scored late equalizer & then Mickey sneaked one in at the death mental was so good he joined in! This is one of my all time favourite mentals. I was stood on the serving hatch at the back of the stand and went it went in joined with the other Stokies going mental in the gangway. It was capped off whilst waiting for a lift back, back at the Vic Ground, with Mickey T pulling up and his car needing a push. My Mate and I pushed his car to get it started with Mickey giving it the horn and a wave once he got going again. Recently the Whelan one at Villa as ended up miles away from where I started arse over tit hanging over the advertising hoardings. The Stigger Foley one at Brighton is another one that is fondly recalled. It kept the unbeaten run going and the terrace was good place for a mental taking some casualties as we went Steve Foley at Brighton, bloody good shout. Very late equaliser to equal our record unbeaten run. I'd not long passed my driving test and drove down. Just before Christmas 1988, if memory serves me correctly That makes me feel old!

Carl Beeston v. Newcastle Boxing Day 1989 - last minute winner. Best and worst mental ever as it went on for ages and was truly mental but I got crushed against a barrier in the Boothen End and felt like i'd broke all my ribs. Great shout. That was completely, well, mental. Tranmere away in 1990 (I think) was fucking crazy as well.

Think you're both a few years out. Correct Sir! 1979 of course. Pre T'internet days, listening on the radio at the ground,Sunderland going ahead at Wrexham which meant we had to score to get promoted! & we did!

Just stumbled across this as well. The last going in on 97 minutes roughly after the Barnsley player took 5 minutes to walk off the pitch after being sent off. Boxing day as I recall. Cracking. Great game. And a great point at one of our bogey teams. Lenny was cool as a cucumber when he rattled it home.

Luton 4-4 for me - none of the goals we scored but the penalty they missed at the end. The normally sedate Butler St paddock clientele got very agitated!

Another vote for Birmingham away in '92. The atmosphere had been electric but it seemed like we were going to come up just short. What made it extra special was the delay and silence after the equaliser hit the back of the net, seemingly inevitable the goal would be disallowed for a foul on the 'keeper. The explosion when the ref pointed to the centre spot remains the number one for me.
In terms of a sequence of mentals, the week featuring away wins at Middlesboro (Stigger winner from memory) Forest (Stein lob for 3-0) then TGO's exhibition at home to Man Utd would take some beating.

In the crowd at Hillsborough when Stoke scored our second goal in the F.A. Cup SF against Arsenal 1971. Dad was thrown around like confetti.
P.S. Arsenal didn't have Sanchez to save them that day but they did have the referee!
