My 9 year old son wants to start playing football. Anyone know any courses around Stoke that dont charge extortionate prices? There are plenty of under 9/under 10 teams about, that will welcome your lad into their training sessions so he can get a feel for everything. I would suggest you find a team thats reasonably local to where you live, believe me if he gets a feel for it, and gets into the team the traveling can be quite tedious 3 times a week! I know Blythe Bridge has a team for pretty much every age group for instance but no good if you live in Burslem! A lot of teams will train in the week as they will have a match either saturday or sunday, so it might be an idea to decide which day of the weekend is good for you and select a team that plays on that day. Believe me, it takes a lot of dedication as a parent should he decide he wants to play weekend football! Ping me a pm and i can fire some contacts your way if you like.

Get yourself down to Roe Lane at 10am every Saturday morning. Whats the crack there mate? Run by Newcastle Council. They sort the Kids out into age groups and then they play matches for about 2 hours, with a break in between. Its about £4 and is all played on grass, so sort him out with an £80 pair of boots and some shin pads!

You can just about see them from the cafe window in sainsburys whilst eating your oatcakes. The coaching is good, well disciplined. They keep them safe in a big cage. They used to go to the Stoke academy dome, (for about 2 years) but the coaching and discipline was not very good.

I have been managing a kids football team for 3 years now, my lads are currently Under 10's. Best think I've ever done (expect the usual family stuff). I absolutely love it. Watching the kids improve week on week and enjoying it makes it all worth while.
We play in the North Staffs League (the old ladsanddads). A brilliant league, run very well. Matches are played every Sunday morning across Staffordshire.
Someone mentioned Westpoint further up the thread. I can't recommend it enough. Lyndon the gentleman who runs it is superb. They train for an hour then have a match for an hour.
The Roe Lane one mentioned is a 2hr kick about. There is no coaching. I think kids should be given some guidance.
The OP said you were Burslem based. Bradwell have numerous team and at least two teams per age group. They play there home games at Trubshaw Cross, which is just round the corner from The Co Op School (the old Brownhills is it?)
