Today showing why he's our best option behind Bojan to play in the hole. If we're going to bring players in in Jan Adam and Wilson showed today why they're dispensable It would be good to get them off the wage bill. We have enough cover now to let them go. I think today also showed how short of options we are up front. Still a good result and let's not be too hard on the lads who've played 3-4 games over the Xmas period,

Adam and Wilson would generate some decent cash for us to strengthen. And as pointed out we have ample cover in both positions.

I might go against the grain here but I thought Ireland was fairly anonymous excluding the goals. Certainly didn't feel that he played well.

I can't comment on his overall performance (I didn't see it) but he completely changed the game today. He's got big weaknesses but who in our squad hasn't? (apart from Shawcross)
He's also never had a run of more than 4 games. Can't make life at Stoke any easier.

He's not a flash player doing 50 yard passes so a lot of his good link up play goes unnoticed. Nowhere near Bojan class but nowhere near as bad as some think.

I was not at the game, as far as I know he came on as a sub at 76min and scored 2 goals. I would have no complaints about that especially as Ireland has been coming back from an injury.

They clicked preseason, and now with the likes of Geoff and Arnie coming good, I feel the world really could be our oyster.

He was prominent in our good run at the end of last season and he has one quality that we seem to lack - he finds space in the final third as shown today.I think he might combine well with Bojan.

Is this the purpose of having a squad then and not "fucking them off" if the players hit a poor spell?

His first goal in particular was a great example of an attacking midfielder making the box to pick up the pieces and score, that's hard to defend against with quality runs like that.

Good player likely to show real class now and then. Very useful to fill in for bojan as the original poster said and was very good in exactly that role in the latter part of last season

Think they had a match with Southport scheduled for New Years day and both teams asked for a postponement which was granted.

Not good enough. Diouf has to play with Bojan in behind. Pace pace pace Diouf was dreadful-again. It's no use having pace if you've got the control of a seaside donkey. Ireland can frustrate at times, but at least he can control a ball. If Diouf had stayed on for the 90 minutes then we'd be out of the cup now, that's the truth of the matter.

Crouch/Bojan is our best combination until we can get someone else in. Ireland has to play though while Bojan is out.
