Bonjour Stokies, must be some other fishkeeping hobbyists on here?
If so what size aquarium have you got and what set up and fish do you own?

Two tanks here.
Planted tank (80 ltr) in the office/study (used to be called the spare bedroom). Injected CO2. Glow light tetras; Black Phantom Tetras and Rummy nose tetras.
Downstairs, a 180 ltr corner type tank. Angel fish; zebra danios, long finned rosy tetras and 2 gouramis
I concentrate more on the plants than the fish these days.

Downstairs, a 180 ltr corner type tank. Angel fish; zebra danios, long finned rosy tetras and 2 gouramis I concentrate more on the plants than the fish these days. I started on a 40L box aquarium but had to upgrade to a Juwel Trigon 190 corner tank as my Pleco got abit too big. Trigon 190 is now fully cycled and has fully replaced the old box tank, Im currently overstocked now though as I had to take on some more fish due to the previous owners not taking great care for them, So water changes have drastically been increased. I try to do as little as I can as often as I can s every 2-3 days ill do a 10% change and get the gravel suction hoover in there. currently have the following fish in there with no intentions of taking on more. - x1 Common Plec
- x3 clown loaches
- x1 Golden Gurami
- x2 Mollys
- x8 neon tetras
- x1 Danio (zebra fish)
- x1 Male Dwarf Gurami
Ive only just managed to comprehend the whole Cycle with Nitrite, Nitrate, Almonia, Ph levels , Good and bad bacteria. I dont think people realise the difficulties with keeping a good healthy tank and think fish are easy pets. At the moment i have gravel and only 1 live plant on on some bog wood the rest are fake plants. Im quite interested that you mentioned about your interest in the plants because ive been thinking about adding some more live my self but not sure what to get really, Im considering moving to Sand and planting. I dont really want floor plants but more of something to hide the filter and offer a bit more of a natural look. Ill post pictures later on.

2 signal crayfish {Ronnie & Reggie},snails, fresh water mussels, gudgeon, rudd, bream, roach, dace, ruff, a small perch and a couple of carp {common and mirror} in a 4ft tank. All caught from the cut. But I feel a bit guilty about keeping captive fish... I'm over it. Trying my damdest to catch a 6" jack pike to introduce to the water for a spot of sport. Clear it out and fuck it off. Managing the water is the key. Dull and expressionless.

I've a 125ltr Juwel Rio with 7x Neons, 6 Lemon Tetras, 7 Cory Sterbais and a few shrimp. I've been more interested in keeping the plants in recent years mainly because I like the aesthetics of a planted tank. I fully recommend a trip to the Green Machine shop in Wrexham they have some pretty awe inspiring tanks.
Unfortunately my tank has suffered horrendously in last few months due to my broken hip meaning I can't perform the necessary maintenance so its been pillaged by algae so I think a few strip down and replanting is in order at some point in the next few months.
Its a great hobby unfortunately its one that certainly grows. I started out with the idea of just keeping a few fish to having all sorts of kit filling up cupboards and the garage.

Attachment DeletedThis is mine so far... 6 moon fish (3 grown ups and 3 babies) and a couple of algae eaters..... Gonna be adding some more soon.... so any suggestions on which fish can live happily with these are welcome. Substrate is cleaned quarterly and gravel every 6 months...due a clean shortly actually I love tinkering around with it and any advice on how to improve longevity of fish and cleaning are most welcome

Like you, I'm thinking about doing a complete replant of my planted tank. I've got all of the "hardware", lighting, CO2 system etc - I just feel that new substrate, and plants chosen by experts might help me along. There's nothing wrong with my planted tank - but it could be doing a lot better

This video convinced me that a planted tank was what I wanted Yeah I managed to see that one in person about a year after the video was taken. It was awesome in the flesh and the huge number of green neons swimming around the centre looked stunning. If I ever had the cash or the room that would be my dream tank. They're quite good at the green machine if you've got the time they'll talk you through a layout and recommend some plants. They're ADA stockists though so obviously the substrate system is a premium one. I'm going to time my next visit to coincide with a live demonstration which they seem to do quarterly.

I've come to the conclusion that the substrate is my failing. It sounds so easy doesn't it? Just get the right balance with light, ferts and CO2. I'm sure that I'm ok with those, so it's down to the substrate and type of plants. Algae is all under control. I read about people getting pissed off with all of the pruning that they have to do - I wish I had that problem!

That tank is like Stoke winning the Champions League.
Mere mortals like me, with my 80 ltr planted tank, aspire to an FA Cup draw against Port Vale in an early round (and probably losing).

Ive heard they are quite small so ideal. Why would staying alive be a factor they wouldnt drag you under would they?

On Boughey Road there used to be shop called Ankers Aquariums. Inevitably people used to graffiti a W at the start. They put a little black tropical fish where the W went. So everyone used to use white paint to put the W on. The moral of the tale is.... swearers will have their way.
