Interesting quote from Hughes after the game "He's quite prepared to protect himself and look after himself - sometimes fairly, sometimes not. I wasn't adverse to that myself so you can't criticise that too much." If we had that kind of player we'd have 8 more points. This, Costa is brilliant and was fantastic last night, those of you saying he was shit, I don't know what game you were watching. He worked his arse off every minute he was on the pitch, didn't give our defence a minutes respite, forced us to play out from the back faster than we wanted and was always dangerous, threatening to get in behind, had a good effort not far wide and would have been in on goal had one of their breaks not hit the ref. He's the perfect lone striker in that role and exactly the type of player we need.

Sometimes, you just have to acknowledge a good player when you see one; even if he doesn't play for your team. He's as hard as fuck, gives as good as he gets and is ruthless. he will score a bag full. I remember seeing another player just like him.... I think his name was Mark Hughes...." Wish he played for us. A world class Jon Walters, or something.

Shawcross didn't have him in his pocket at all. If Costa's two clear chances had resulted in goals we'd be slagging Shawcross off. One was miles offside and came from the left of the defence not the right, the other was when we were chasing the game.

It was a proper old fashioned tussle between the two, and Shawcross handled him very well considering what a threat he is....

I thought he was gash, missed two sitters, can't remember him winning a header against Ryan and spent most of the match bitching to the referee and assistants. He did no more than Crouch and he's come in for a fair bit of stick. I think sometimes people watch the name rather than the player, if that was Torres who put in the exact same performance people would be saying how shit he was.
Same goes for Hazard, I didn't think he did much at all but he's had plenty of praise on here.

I like Crouchie but sorry he was at his feeble worst last night. Costa ran the line superbly for Chelsea, but Ryan was mnore than a match for him. It was the most enjoyable part of the game watching those two battle it out to be fair, proper old fashioned tussle, just with one person pissing and whingeing constantly....

He made some decent runs but that was about it, I was just expecting a lot more after all the fuss made about him over the last couple years. Maybe that just goes to show what a superb player our captain is.

Old fashioned tussle and Costa won Got taken off, let Ryan get under his skin on several ocassions, lost every header to him. I beg to differ

I must have blinked and missed it. Crouch had a poor night, but to make out that Diouf came on and made a difference is cockwash. He spent his 15 min cameo rolling his eys and looking at the sky every time his first touch let him down.

One was miles offside and came from the left of the defence not the right, the other was when we were chasing the game. Which miles offside was this, surely not the one where Ryan stepped forward when there was never a hope in hells chance of him being offside and then Costa went on to blow a glorious chance?. If not then that was pretty poor defending from Ryan and when Costa was clean through did anyone notice just how laboured Pieters was in his attempts to get back?. He was slower than slow and not what you'd expect because he should have been busting a gut in the anticipation that his goalkeeper may only parry it.

He brought the ball down on two ocassions and laid it out wide to Assaidi/Arnie (can't remember who exactly?) which was more than Crouch's total contribution as he was pitiful.

Think he suits Chelsea down to the ground, constantly moaning, snide fouls, Chipping away in the opposition's ear all game.
A la John scum bag Terry, and cesc "arsenal" (no other words needed) fabregas.
Sad thing is that the ref's generally fall for it week in week out :-(
