I'm surprised it's taken so long for them to have become the favoured pairing in the absence of Huth in all honesty. Stoke fans, for the most part, are absolute idiots though and many wouldn't know a decent footballer if one walked up to them and poked them in the eye. Muniesa's talents are there for all to see. His leap makes up for any perceived lack of size and he tackles like a tank. Throw in the fact that he's obviously a superb footballer who has been schooled properly, and he has everything you need to be a superb centre half in modern day football. One other thing as well, whilst commenting on Muniesa...Is Barkley not the epitome of everything wrong with English football. Lauded as a modern day Paul Gascoigne despite doing absolutely nothing of any note on a consistent basis, he played in a similar role to Bojan. Bojan is probably 5-10 players away from being in the Spanish squad in that position yet on the evidence of today's performance he is an infinitely superior footballer. Better balance, better technique, equally difficult to dispossess if not more so, and certainly more of a goal threat and more creative. Bojan cost 328k or thereabouts. Barkley is allegedly worth 30m. 328k? Seriously? Seriously. 500,000 Euro's which at the exchange rate at the time equated to some ridiculous figure of £ 328,274.

Funny isn't it that just over a year ago, this centre half pairing played away at Everton and had a mare losing 4-0.
Just shows Rome wasn't built in a day!
Good for Hughes for his continued faith in Muni. Patience is having its rewards.

it wasn't the centre half pairing that played badly that day though, it was the whole team.
Muniesa wasn't great but he was written off on the back of one game, where he wasn't great, the team were a whole lot worse and he was far from our worst player on the day.

It looks like Ryan trusts Muniesa and isn't forever trying to cover for him which does happen with Wilson in the side. I said from the first time I saw Muniesa that he is a natural centre back, he's strong in the tackle, reads the game and is good in the air for his size. He also knows when to take a booking for the team. I'd love to see him and Ryan stay at the club for the next few years.
