Beardsley was a joy to watch that night.
How that team failed to win anything is criminal, especially when they added Shearer the following season alongside Ferdinand.
From reading Keith Gillespie's book that final goal from Peacock cost him about £50,000 on a 3-0 bet he had with the bookies.

Am I right in thinking Ian Clarkson was crap? I was only 7/8 at the time but I seem to remember him not being the greatest full back in the world?
You have to feel sorry for him watching that though, Ginola was electric.
How about the previous round where we won at Stamford Bridge? I was there that night, we lived in Brighton so it wasn't the longest journey. 7/8 years old watching us beat the international stars & Steino of Chelsea.....mega!
Look at the way our current manager goes down looking for a free kick, after being dispossessed in the build up to our goal. Sad thing is, if Crouch did that to Matic on monday night.....it would probably be given!

I wouldn't call him crap although we had several players playing well above themselves that season including Graham Potter and Ray Wallace (who won most of the player of the year awards alongside Prudhoe)
Letting Clarkson leave on a free and paying the best part of £300k for Ally Pickering wasn't much of an upgrade to be honest.

I don't think Ally Pickering could ever be considered an upgrade on Ian Clarkson. Maybe being a little harsh but for me, that cunt Ally Pickering epitomised the piss poor side that eventually got relegated. He was, is, and will always be despised in this house

Christ did we really pay 300k for Ally Pickering? He did score a belter of a goal in front of the Boothen End at the Brit. Would have been even better if he'd not left us the season before. Getting back to Ginola, I was really disappointed with him that night. He was in scorching form, and easily had the beating of Clarkson. At half-time, someone in front of me said it was the best individual performance they'd seen at the Vic since Huddy played for us, but I left the ground thinking what a twat he was for spending the whole night diving just to get Clarkson sent off.

The one and only goal he scored for Burnley My blood boiled.

Absolutely right about Ginola. I remember being so angry that he was so good yet still wanted to cheat. It just seemed spiteful. I was in the Boothen Stand paddock and wanted to run on and throttle him. Great find with the video.

What I do know is that on the way to the ground I was confident in my prediction that Clarky would walk. After that first booking all bets were off!

He won mom and gave the mountain bike to some kid in the crowd if I remember. There was chaos around the streets that night too

Just imagine if we had have won promotion through the playoffs, with no money available we would've struggled Derbyesque in the premier league. Like you say Razor, Potter, Sturridge and an aging Gleghorn were all important members of that side playing above their ability, there was no way we were ready for the premier league.

Nice find. Thanks for posting. Really nostalgic for me watching that.
I remember at the time being incensed at Ginola. But watching through 2014 Premier League eyes the dives weren't as bad as I recall.
Shows how much the game has changed. Not necessarily for the better.
How that Newcastle side didn't win the league is beyond me.

Then he went and behaved like that. When France won the World cup and I saw the pictures of Ginola stony faced because he hadn't been picked for this huge moment in his country's history. He admitted after he actually felt very sad about not being part of it all. Schadenfrude.
