Crystal Palace isn't the easiest ground to get to, whilst most people's wallets are still on life support after the extortionate prices of Old Trafford. Not to mention Christmas on the horizon with replica Stoke shirts to buy as pressies.
Or perhaps people just couldn't be arsed.

Believe me, it's not a case of couldn't be arsed........
It's all about the wedge.

I've been part of smaller away crowds at Palace and 1400 is a really good effort just before christmas. The quality of the support was excellent as well. Voiciferous and unstintingly loyal...a bit different to the atmosphere on this forum really!

Tough ground to get to from Stoke and also expensive travel close to Christmas. I'd speculate half of the 1400 were southern based. Doubt such stats are available but it might be interesting to see a map of where people travel from to each game (based on their address registered on scfc direct)

I'm pretty sure that QPR will be bottom of the list for away support in this weekend's fixtures! ;-)

Decent group of Spanish sorts were there and I was sat next to 3 German speakers who seemed very nice.

This is the match that I chose to miss, it's all about the cash.
Liverpool £43 Man Utd £46 Everton £44 Wrexham £15 Arsenal £36.50 Leicester £35
Total £219.50 All paid for in the 2 months prior to Xmas - something has to give. So Crystal Palace was the one that I chose to sacrifice. 1400 is a very good turnout.

Awful excuses coming out..
Newcastle took 2,000 fans to arsenal .. Almost 600 miles round trip. Same for west ham travelling to sunderland.
we just dont have a good following away from home anymore.. maybe because we were all used to losing every time

Newcastle get 50000 at home, a 2000 following is 4% We get 26000 at home, a 1400 following is over 5%

As anyone who knows me will confirm I used to be a "never miss a game, home and away, including pre-season friendly and Anglo Italian Cup games" type Stoke fan.
Not anymore I'm afraid and the reason is simple, it's the cost of away games now. For me and my 13 year old to go to every away games is simply too expensive so we pick and chose our games. This season we chose not to go to Palace instead we'll go to Leicester as it's a ground my lad hasn't been to, (which was the same reason we went to Spurs the other week.)
It's nowt to do with falling out of love with Stoke it's just economic reality. Simples.

The number of coaches parked outside looked in no way commensurate with what you would typically see for a following of 1,400. So lots of people coming from London/South East I am certain of that.

On a side note I don't know what is going on at WBA attendance wise these days, I use to think of them as on a par with us. But with 2,536 Villa fans in a crowd of 24,684 at the Hawthorns that only leaves 22,148 WBA fans in what must surely be their most intense game of the season

Gods,
I've not got the stats re WBA, but working in Brum I keep an eye on their away followings and they're much better to ours. Interesting when you consider your point, plus as they're far from happy with events on the pitch at the moment. They've taken some pretty decent followings.

They've taken some pretty decent followings. yeah, but it looks like at the same time the home fans are giving up on them unless there were exceptional circumstances at the Villa game, extra segregation perhaps, not sure what the Hawthorns hold in total but I'm sure it's a few more than the 24,000 they got for Villa.
