I'd absolutely love him here.
I don't buy that he's too good for us, or visa versa. Within reasonable terms, I don't even see it as a risk on a free.
Go get him Sparky!

To be honest he made a huge money move to Chelsea and had big boots to fill.
I really think if he came to club like ours with no pressure of the big club expectation i think he'd do well.
Wages would be the obvious stumbling block.

I agree, its a shame. I imagine he'd be far too expensive for us to consider, but perhaps he could make a nice return to Atletico.

I think Torres main talent was his pace, which by all accounts he has lost. He did have a good shot but my memory of his Chelsea days when he arrived from Liverpool that he just couldn't score no matter how good the opportunity.
If he has lost his pace and his ability to poach goals, I see little point in signing him, particularly at an inflated wage that would only serve to upset the other players at the club.
I'm all for finding another Odemwingie or Crouch, i.e. a good oldie who still has something to offer, but I would prefer another Diouf/Moses/Bojan, i.e. a young player who can grow/develop with the club.

To my mind we don't have a bad record bringing players back from the abyss, however we're Stoke and as a result will not be signing Torres... Even a shit one.

£50 million and they're willing to release him for free, to write off an expense like that he must be absolutely fucked. that's like 80 bojan's!

We'll worth the gamble imo see, that's fair enough and a few people have said it and i appreciate everyone is entitled to their opinion but (genuine question) what are people basing this on? 120 games in 4 years, just 21 goals (which, as i've pointed out is less than Crouch, Walters and Diouf) Chelsea don't want him No-one else has wanted him since he's been at Chelsea Milan gave him a 2 year loan deal and want to cancel it less than 4 months into it He's seen as an all time legend at Athletico and even they don't want him back off Milan (as Milan have offered him to them) seriously, what has he done since he was 26 to warrant anyone thinking that he would worth the gamble of paying 60k a week for him? i genuinely don't get it at all. would we offer 60k a week for any other forward with that goalscoring record over a 4 year period? I know it's not quite the same (age etc) but I don't think its massively different to Bojan, he was a gamble (and is meant to be on decent money), fantastic at Barca for a spell, hadn't done anything for a good while, I'd be more than happy if we signed Torres but it all depends how determined he is to turn things round and to prove people wrong.

Totally different, Bojan was a little boy lost, inexperienced in life and everything happening to quick. Torres is at the end of his career, and has been finished as a decent striker since before the 2010 World Cup.

With no transfer fee to worry about it's not even a risk money wise. I think we're the right sort of club to come to if in his position. Get him back playing with no real pressure on his shoulders and you never know what might happen. He can't be demanding big wages because he is seen as damaged goods. If he wants a pay day he'll be off to Qatar but if he wants to prove to himself that he can still score some good goals, he'll come to a club like us.

He could be a decent signing for someone if he pulls his socks up and takes a huge pay cut. No way I'd give him top earner here though. He looked seriously lazy to me whenever I've seen him for Chelsea. Plus every time he played at the brit I thought he was one of the worst players on the pitch.
I also highly doubt that 60k a week would even nearly match his demands never mind short term/performance based contracts. He must have an agent like Rooney to have engineered that £50 million transfer.

Yes please if possible (no chance though)
His scoring record is much debated, but if you watch a little more closely, he's actually a fantastic footballer.
He would be immense for a club like ours, and I think our home support would suit him very well.
Pipe dream though sadly...

Torres would be an awesome signing...shame we can't afford his wages. Not sure torres would be an awesome signing but with less expectation he might find his past form. I don't think torres will want massive wages, the weight on his shoulders from the big money move to chelsea as hindered his progression. When you have had such a poor few seasons, you would think he would like to get back to enjoying his football and where better than a club like stoke, with the crowd behind him it could give him the boost and confidence he needs.
