I am saying this as a guess if it isn't television rights with Spain being a tourist destination where most resorts don't close til 9/10 at night it allows for the locals to close up and get to the game? Or I may be wrong I say this with my Holiday Rep head on, it works out for me quite well!

Is it not because it's less hot at night?

Could it be to make it more saleable to foreign markets...?

In terms of TV rights it's not but on a wednesday night watching a match at 10pm seems mental

Part of Spanish culture is to have a sleep in the afternoon after lunch, a "siesta". So as an example, kids will go into school in the morning, return home for a long lunch where they'll kip for a while during the hottest part of the day, then they'll go back to school later on in the afternoon and don't finish their schoolday until around the time people here are finishing their workday. Spanish families don't tend to have their tea until around the time that quite a lot of people here are starting to think about bed, so naturally they are awake until much later at night. A 10pm evening KO for them is the equivalent of a 7pm KO over here.

They don't start work at the crack of dawn like us daft Brits either! A leisurely coffee and brandy until about 10am, a long lunch 1-3pm, then a kip until 5pm followed by a couple of hours work (or skive). Dinner at 8pm until 10pm, then watch the match. Where did we go wrong, killing ourselves to keep the rich in clover? What fools we all are!

Could it be related to the siesta as well? So isn't it the equivalent of an 8pm ko?
Edit- already covered I should read posts already in thread!

Personally I think if I was a professional footballer I'd hate playing at 10pm at night, but that's probably the british in me talking

The best job is working 1-2 with an hours dinner.

Why do they kick off at 10pm at night their time? As I'm a season ticket holder at Malaga I can shed some light on this. It's purely down to TV, they show one game after another with the last one being 10pm, so I never get home from the match till after 1 am. Unfortunately three quarters of Malaga's games so far this season have been the 10pm kick off.

State schools finish at 2pm after school activities are an option and private schools finish around 4-5 pm.

Just going off what my old Spanish teacher told me. edit: I went to a private school so maybe he was using the private school example

Sounds very reminiscent of Chell WMC circa 1978 apart from the gorgeous women of course....most wore head scarves with their draws hanging down below their pinnies. Well it used to turn me on ...

They do everything later there. The cunts don't go out drinking till 1am. I suspect this is basically the reason. The Spanish eat amazingly late. If you want a decent table at a posh restaurant then book it for 8pm....you will be on your own. After 9 for eating, after midnight for drinking. That's why during the normal 9-5 working day they are a bunch of feckless layabouts who don't come alive until 6pm. We could learn a lot from the Spanish and their culture.
