Ryan has to tone his defensive tackles/holds down as it seems the only way he can deal with attackers is to manhandle them to the ground. He luckily escaped on several occasions today, but unless he stops this holding/shoving mentality he will be targeted by the Refs, who always has him on their radar anyway.

He's the least of our problems at the back.

Shawcross was superb today as always.
He needs a centre back alongside him. The right back was a big weak link for us again today

Im more worried that he cant nod a ball into the net from 3 yards rather than his defensive qualities!

I'm not talking about his ability in the role, just the style in which he executes it. It's only time before he gets a yellow or gives away a stupid avoidable penalty.

Thought he was excellent yet again and couldn't fault him.

Shawcross' approach to defending is not the problem.

The disaster waiting to happen is if he leaves in January.

Example today how he took out Sterling, if it wasn't for the Bindippers inability to capitalise on a free kick in a great area that would have been it.

Genius. You got me laughing mate. ? Do you think shawcross was poor? I don't think he did much wrong. Wilson on the other hand was poor. Went too tight twice in first half and could have been booked twice. He looked unfit to be fair. Couldn't get his legs going to close down the edge of the box second half. Cameron in my opinion is not good enough and never has been. He is not a full back. He was rinsed time and again

Shawcross and Bojan were both very good today! Unfortunately we lost both Sidwell and Whelan and this piled more presure on our defence. The game could have gone either way though, and if Bojan's shot had gone in (the one that hit the post) we might have nicked it. Right now we struggle to keep a clean sheet and we struggle to score, but hopefully we'll turn the corner soon.

He saw Sterling had beaten him and took a booking for the team. It was exactly the right thing to do. Ryan is as imperious a defender as we've ever had, no need to worry.

Exactly my point, when he gets beaten he brings them down, often just outside the box. Taking a Yellow for the team is noble but giving away a probable goal from a well taken free kick is plain stooopid.

Ryan is a 1 man back 4. Without him we'd be relegated for sure.
The one time he got dragged out of the box (doing Adam's just it has to be said) they scored.

Even then, there are three players far more culpable in the goal. Wilson getting ragdolled by a target man yet again, Pieters' weak challenge and Arnie not tracking back were all bigger factors.

Ryan Shawcross was the best player on the pitch today from both sides. He was head and shoulders above everyone else. For Stoke, Shawcross was magnificent, N'zonzi was excellent, Pieters was good and Bojan showed us glimpses of how good he could be. The rest of our team was absolutely toss, none more so than Wilson, Cameron, Adam and Walters!

What rubbish, he's a CB, is he any different to Terry. They all rough the opposition up, that's their job.

I agree. Shawcross is a great defender but we really need get him some shorts with pockets in and tell him keep his hands in there. Hate to see him with his hands all over players.

The best in the world only have a strike rate of around 1 in 20, believe it or not.
