The M62 is definitely my favourite. Quite a few fond memories now I think of it, which is an odd thing to say about something as dull as a motorway. Nearly getting stranded on it in a fierce snow storm in the eighties. Keeping to 55mph all the way from Manchester to Bradford in a valiant attempt to get to my girlfriend's with no money and a tiny amount of petrol. Clipping a van at 3am whilst doing over 100mph and not crashing (bit drunk). Picking and eating magic mushrooms to the drone of M62 traffic nearby and thinking the sound was coming from the clouds. Completely stopped in a contraflow system and seeing an old uni friend working on the road (he saw me and waved me onto the closed area so we could have a chat), and, best of all, hitching a lift from a stripper going to a bachelor party and dressed for the gig.
Not so dull after all...

I like the bit on the m62 with the house in the middle, thats great that is. I agree. The stretch between the two nice bridges which includes the farmhouse. I have just google mapped it and the first image I saw showed a traffic jam on the Leeds bound side up the hill to the Saddleworth bridge ....a familiar site to me 20 odd years ago.

I've done the M6, M42, M40 and M4 today and the best one was the M40, not too much traffic on it compared to the others and not so many fookin wanking middle lane hogging tossers Tomorrow the joy of the M25 from M4 all the way ound to the other side, near the dartford Crossing that's the worst one of them all dartford flyover fook me thats scary, i allways seemed to cross it at night in pitch black, never liked it its just too fucking high!!! for me it was allways a white knuckle ride.

Hate travelling and especially hate travelling by motorway, would prefer travel by train anytime. The travelling is just a mean's to get somewhere you need/want to get to. So best part of the motorway is the m6 j15 when I get home.

Nerd Alert.................
Being a regular M'way sufferer can I bring in a 'specialist' category of favourite 'smart' motorway? Apart from having to suffer the endless 50MPH roadworks stretches whilst they convert the hard shoulder to an extra live lane they do actually seem to work in practice. My 'local' is the M42 & the extra lane saves me loads of time at peak hours, 95% of the traffic still in the other 3 lanes, zooooooooom!
Other than that another vote for the M6 in Cumbria and Tebay services. Also try their new offering on the M5 at Gloucester (only North bound open at the moment). Worst's have to any part of the M25 & Stafford services, it takes 10 minutes to drive to the bloody car park.

That A14 from the M1 to Cambridge feels like a kick in the balls whilst on it It never seems to end Tell me about it! Those roadworks with the average speed check near Kettering are set to be there for another year yet as well I'll be travelling that route this weekend, see you at the game

What is it with people that seem scared to use the hard shoulders when it is available, same as people won't go on bus lanes even though they end at 09.30, ? Get off the road if you don't know how to use it you bunch of ****** !!!!

M6 North of Lancaster and A74M and M74 for me. Just for the scenery if nowt else. Yep, I'll go with this. Also enjoyed driving through Glasgow on the M8 where it's built up either side but then you see the hills in the distance, beautiful if they are snow covered.

This thread will be called sad at some point! The northern M6 to the border is my favourite. And the services at Tebay - its even got its own website:- www.tebayservices.com/I wasn't thinking it was sad, just very Alan Partridge!

the m54 becaue it leads home the m6 toll because you can speed they always have good billboards on the west brom junction of the m5 too as for sevices, any of the rare ones with a maccy d's so much better than burger king. the worst services are the ones you need to come off the motorway and drive a mile to get to, like cheivley on the m40 j10 Exeter on the M5 is the worst service station in the country to get to imo! Chuffing hate it and I guarantee one of the kids WILL need the toilet on its approach and with only the A30 to go down to get to our caravan you know there is no way out

I'm going to throw in the I-15 from LA to Las Vegas in a sexy white dodge charger Booooooooooooooooooootiful We drove from LA to Vegas, way back in 1988 and yup, what a road, stopped off at the Ghost Town 1/2 way there, and pretty awesome as you cross the state border from Cali to Nevada, 2 enormous casinos either side of the road. Best to do at night as the lights of Vegas can be seen miles away and is a very impressive sight.

This reminds me of an old joke.... A Stoke City Fan and his Missus are driving through the Nevada Desert on a fly drive holiday, when they see a WigWam at the side of the road, with a sign saying " World's Cleverest Man..Any question answered for $5.00" Stoke Fan tells his missus he is having a go, walks in and sees this Indian Guy in full tribal regalia. He gives him $5.00 and asks him " Who won the league cup in 1972"...Indian takes a couple of puffs on his pipe and says " Stoke City"... Wow...thinks the Stoke Fan...OK.. Here's another $5.00..." Who did they beat, and by what score"...Again..a couple of puffs on his pipe..." They beat Chelsea 2-1 "... Wow...Ok...Here is another $5.00...." Who scored the winning goal..." Couple of puffs later " George Eastham..." Anyway, about 5 years later they are taking the same holiday, and again see the wigwam... " I gotta go in and see him"... Walks in and the same Indian is sat there... " How" Says the Stoke Fan.. Couple of puffs on the pipe...." Diving Header..."
