Worst-John Guidetti. Best-Mark Crossley

Wasn't Tosh Mckinlay's sending off a bit pathetic? If I remember it rightly it was just a very gentle, friendly tap on a players head? I remember thinking it was an absolutely ridiculous decision, makes a mockery of the referee's decision not to take any action against Rose last week. Not defending him as a player by the way, just remembering an injustice Wasn't he also a bit of a 'fashion victim'?

Always thought Mark Walters was a quality signing, alongside Alan Biley.

There is only one answer to 'the best'. Crossley. We'd have been back in Division 3 without him and almost certainly not where we are now.

2 Words.................... Shola Ameobi...............................I'll let you guess which one I'm thinking of out of best or worst. His loan caused a bit of a legal wrangle between us and Fat Sam. Ameobi was recovering from hip surgery when we signed him on loan for a £500k fee and we hoped to sign him permanently if promoted. However, probably in the hope of offloading their half fit player, Fat Sam claimed we had signed an agreement to do this but Coates politely sent him back filed under "not good enough". Since then though Ameobi has forged a decent career at Newcastle so fair do's to him.

There were a few very poor loans in the Boskamp era from what I remember. Junior and Martin Kolar immediately spring to mind. Kolar yes. But Junior had a run of some good games for us imo.

In my lifetime Crossley, Grobbelaar and Gunnlaugsson are all up there.
My worst list starts and ends with Michael Ricketts.

Best: Steino (albeit his actual loan spell wasn't that impressive funnily enough).
Worst: Gordon Marshall
We've had players on loan who haven't featured or got sent off on debut but purely on how many goals he cost us I think Marshall gets the nod.
As far as other good loan signings go most have been mentioned but Tom Cowan was a really good loanee who often gets overlooked.

Specifically Gaziantep Büyük?ehir Belediyesi Spor Kulübü. Try saying that after a couple of pints! Whether those 14 years at Newcastle were good, bad or indifferent is for the Geordie boys to comment. From a Stoke perspective, his six games with us were very poor.

Mickey Owen (WTF), John Carew (40K a week) Micky Owen wasn't a loan signing. Carew had a good debut but turned out to be a shocker. Good player well past his best and replacing Tuncay with him nearly fucked our season. It took TP seeing sense and dropping him (and Whitehead) to turn things round.

Chris Riggott & Jody Craddock.
Not sure where to classify them, as they were good players but they were only here for about 5 minutes.
Also haven't seen Stephen Kelly mentioned yet, just looked further up, my bad.

Didn't Micky Adams do alright on loan? I remember he scored a cracker from out on the left wing (vs. Bristol C?)...we signed Walters & Biggins on the same day??
We've certainly had our fair share of loans over the years...any remember much about this lot?..
Josip Skoko Steve Melton Chris Clark Stephen Wright Richard Dryden Sam Aiston

I remember going to a match with my dad when Steve Guppy was playing, and I couldn't help but think to myself that I had no idea they made Stoke shirts that large.

Anyone remember David Puckett?
Never has a player's surname rhymed so smoothly with the phrase his manager must have thought when he reluctantly decided to pick him in the team.

That was Joe Jordan's BIGGEST wrong doing, even to this day I'll never understand that move??? Vince had a lot of power in the dressing room and fell out with Jordan didn't he? He was also very much a Macari man and I think "Jaws" was probably (and ultimately unsuccessfully) trying to put his stamp on the team.
