Smalling, Lambert and Walcott are why I no longer follow our national team. With the sending off of Smalling and how shit he really is I now know Ryan has no chance of a call up whatsoever. Not that our captain would but I would proper let him have it and say it as it is Woy is an inept senile old fool who knows fuck all about current form and should be sacked forthwith.

Carrick is back to add some youth to build on for future tournaments .....that was Roys vision when he came into office wasn't it ? He's hardly kicked a ball in recent memory but he's well worth the call up as he will be around for many years to come Jesus fucking wept He's covering at centre half for Man Utd so should obviously be in the squad. Hodgson is just seeing out his time until his inevitable departure after we go out of the Euro's when we finally come up against decent opposition. Good to see his prodigy Stuart 'Mancienne is better than Shawcross' Pearce is setting the championship alight. And we've always got Gareth Southgate to fall back on as well. The future of England is in safe hands.

I for one am reassured - looks like we are firmly on track:
1. England stagger through group by skin of their teeth and qualify for France 2016 2. Everyone agrees that qualification is the most important thing (which it is). 3. Pundits and journalists begin to talk earnestly about a "new generation" of players 4. France squad and Daft Punk release "Le Football est rentre chez nous" - produced by Nile Rodgers - eclipsing the pitiful England offering 5. Raggedy flags of St George appear on white vans, pubs and houses 6. Panini stickers on sale in Costcutters 7. Lazy articles in the press abound about snails, frogs' legs and the can-can. Also the brilliant French team of 84 - Tigana, Six, Rocheteau, Platini, etc. (Seriously, it was quality) 8. Large numbers of people who otherwise take no interest in football talk knowledgeably (or ignorantly - take your pick) about Shaw, Barkley, Sterling, Lallana, Chambers (in fact the entire (ex) Southampton team) as the new "golden" generation 9. Equally large numbers of people attach huge significance to the fact that England are unfancied. (Why...?)... 10. BBC3 shows updated version of the "worst ever England XI". Carlton Palmer makes the cut. This time Glen Johnson sneaks in. 11. Jagielka and Cahill pull out of squad. Too tired. As replacements Roy picks the Liverpool or Southampton (no-one knows or cares) U-18 central defence pairing ahead of Shawcross - despite the fact that both are Dutch. Oatcake implodes with high horse indignation 12. Home friendly arranged against Hungary 13. Away friendly arranged against the mighty Luxembourg. Remember - there are no gimmes these days in international football 14. England perform in pedestrian style in the above. Manager declares himself pleased with the positives 15. Talisman player picks up injury - Beckham, Rooney, Barry, Oxlade-C. This time it's Raheem Sterling's haircut 16. Radio 5 interrogates eminent Oxford professor of surgery to comment on recovery period for (delete as appropriate) metatarsal/knee ligament/hair weave/psychological barber-related trauma 17. Scare stories in the tabloids about hooligan fears. Mass handing in of passports across the country 18. Media becomes increasingly hysterical - anything less than the semi-final will be a disaster 19. Geoff Hurst says he "has a feeling" this is England's year. (It is, after all, our turn, and we did invent the game. Even the French call it "le football") 20. So does Steven Gerrard - by this time he is player-manager of Tranmere Rovers 21. Players and management say this is the "best prepared" team they have been involved with. Spirit in the camp has never been better 22. Opening game ends in disappointment, with at least one goalkeeping and one defensive howler 23. Pundits take the positives from the game. We can still qualify 24. Small cabal of senior players stage revolt, and pitch up at manager's hotel room at midnight on the day before crunch game. "Play us in our favourite positions - or else". Meanwhile the same senior players deny the revolt in the tabloids 25. England stumble through group stage. (Or possibly not) 26. England humiliated by first half decent team they meet in knockout stage - quite possibly a team on a fraction of their wages 27. Shawcross treated in A&E. Hernia induced by convulsive laughing fit at England's Keystone Cops defending 28. Blame apportioned to (delete as appropriate) - being too tired at the end of a PL season/ball too light/ball too heavy/heat/humidity/altitude/internal travel/inferior accommodation/presence of WAGs/absence of WAGs/ boredom/opposition's "technical" superiority/refereeing incompetence/German goal-line technology/too many foreigners in PL/players' use of social networking/anti-capitalism riots/etc. Or just the fact that the opposition are simply too foreign 29. Blame never apportioned to lack of skill, ability to pass and move into space or tendency to lose concentration 30. Low level reprisals taken across the country with minor vandalism of (delete as appropriate) Pret a Manger/BMWs/pizza restaurants/Albanian Consulate 31. "Team England" attempt to fly into Stansted unnoticed at 3.00 am. 32. Team England ambushed by press in Stansted arrivals lounge at 3.10 am. 33. Team England lynched and disembowelled on the front and back pages 34. Much hand-wringing, followed by root and branch review of tactics/coaching/youth development/grass roots game. Essentially "something must be done..." 35. Manager replaced and incumbent - let's assume it's Roy (and his successors in 2018/2020/2022) - takes job in Sunderland/Saudi Arabia/Switzerland 36 When the dust settles, the new manager and the FA declare that this was a tournament too early for the new golden generation - we are told to wait for 2018/2020/2022 37. Players' ghosted autobiographies released at Christmas and relate detailed accounts of the revolt described above 38. Autobiographies also outline how England "under-performed". (This would be about the 15th tournament where that has happened). No-one says - "we are not in fact as good as our salaries suggest". All books have toe-curling titles like "Shaw Feet" or "Sterling Effort" 39. January 2nd - warehouse-fuls of players' ghosted autobiographies are pulped by Waterstone's 40. Repeat every two years.
Can't wait..!

Give me that any day. 1) i'm english 2) i'm a fan of football (points 1 & 2 put together = i'm a fan of the English national team) 3) if i only supported teams that picked players purely on the basis of how good they are rather than simply being managers favourites i'd have stopped supporting Stoke the moment SJW was signed by Tone 4) if i only supported teams who picked players based on their true love of the shirt rather than because of how it can further their celebrity/career/financial worth then i'd have stopped supporting ANY side (including our own) the moment the Prem started 5) if i only supported teams because they were currently a good side then i'd have stopped supporting Stoke 20 odd years ago and i certainly wouldn't take the piss out of Chelsea/Man u/Liverpool/Man City for being gloryhunters..(that would just make me a complete hypocrite wouldn't it?). i was always under the impression that you support the "TEAM" through thick and thin rather than pick and choose when you support them based on their current form and the individuals who are picked for that team, maybe that's just me! but if you want to perpetuate the completely and utterly inaccurate myth that picking a side based on the media/managers favourites is exclusively a Hodgson problem or that only England international players play for their own greed and have no real love for the shirt they're wearing then crack on mate not saying that Hodgson isn't clueless or that he isn't picking them for the wrong reasons or that most of them look like they can't be arsed...but if you genuinely think that it's just England games that this happens in then you either don't watch much football at all or you're just using the usual lazy arsed excuses (that don't stack up logically at all) to jump on the "I hate England but for some reason i'll still happily keep bang up to date with all their selections, performances and results" bandwagon amazing how many people on this board constantly tell us how they have absolutely no interest in England whatsoever yet ALWAYS seem to come onto the threads about the national side anyway

England have always been shit. Apart from 66, 90 and 96 we are a second round or quarter final team. It's been no different all of our international lives. If England hadn't had been so snobby when the world cup first started and entered themselves into it instead of thinking it was a stupid competition to attend, we may have had more glory at this level but we have been average since the fifties when it comes to playing other nations apart from the odd occasion.

I gave up watching them when Cloughie was given a TEN yes TEN [10] minute interview for the England managers job. The FA were shit scared of him, but was pratically every English supporters choice for manager, but they gave the job to an untried manager................ummm Ron f*cking Greenwood.
I havent watched one England game since, and i NEVER will again.
