Controversial I know, but I've started to make a regular trip to the 'mothertown' for a night out (can't be bothered with Hanley or castle these days), and I think it's a decent place to go (and closer to home for me).
There's a decent circuit of pubs (probably better than Stoke town these days), the Bulls Head is a PROPER pub serving real ales and rare ciders (unlike the chemical shite you get in most pubs), and you can round it off with the best curry in Stoke, Kismet.
It definitely seems on the up, especially with some new bars and restaurants opening up soon. I think Wetherspoons are taking on the old Mark One building too.

The Kismet is in Burslem, not Stoke.

I agree - Burslem is quite exotic in a funny sort of way.

The Kismet is in Burslem, not Stoke. By Stoke I meant the city in general, and I suspect, deep down, you knew that. But thanks for the directions to a place I visit several times a month

I couldnt care less if the boozers were paved with gold up there I could not enjoy a pint surrounded by Vile fans. They really do hate us with a passion.

Go after 7...Most of em are in bed by then, especially on a school night, and those that aren't have to be home anyway as part of their curfew restrictions.

Frequent there most Fridays, good night out and some decent ales.
Kismet's OK'ish, best of the bunch in Burslem.
Avoid the Saggars like the plague though.

The Swan and Leopard are both worth a visit.

I had the misfortune of having a night out in Burslem on Friday and thought it was utter tripe.. This may have been because I was forced into a place called Saggars Definitely not for me anyway.

It was great night out in the 90's but went down bank, we went there the other Christmas had a decent night the Titanic pub is always a good crack and a few others.
Actually got talking to Tom Pope's mum and dad outside a kebab shop very nice people i think he'd scored 4 goals that afternoon.

Went there with the misses 3 weeks ago. Decent night out if truth be told. Not really the place for a full on lads night out unless you go to Saggars where it was a bit of a slut fest Plenty of pubs, food and relaxed atmosphere.

Having said that I have only had 4 curries in Burslem in the last 5 years.

Great Moguls have also declined, and avoid the one next to KFC, unless you like lumps of grissle in watery sauce.

Burslem is indeed a great night out. Simply avoid Saggers and the place that was Denry's and you will have a good night. Leopard/Post Office/Swan/Duke and Bulls Head are all decent boozers and the obligatory visit to Kismet to round off the night? Top notch.
