It's gonna take decades..... The set pieces is the strangest one. We've been shit at them since the Cup Final season and completely wretched at them under Hughes.

Scared!
Or at least wary. Koeman doesn't believe his side will win, hes seen the negative mental effect the 8-0 win has had on his players andthe blatant disregard they have shown towards the Potters.
Now should he come out and say we play lovely football like Southampton and we win then where can he hide? If he says were a bunch of thuggish Neanderthal's then he can say how we bullied his team unfairly and how were ruining the game after we beat them, the fans agree and Koeman loses no trust or credit.
Football management is about blame deflection

Quite surprising really - Koeman is usually spot on with how he sees and calls things in football.
That being said, he is probably just using the cliché as a smoke screen to cover his arse should we win.

While we're on the subject of cheating, one of the biggest, stinking cheats of the lot rears his ugly head.

So not only did we invent diving, we also invented holding at corners.

I don't think Graham Taylor has ever forgiven him for that.

We are fairly physical to be fair, but we are fucking dire from set pieces

Whilst we are on about it (sort of) I do think that the appalingness of our set pieces needs adressing. corners are shocking.

When Pulis left that part of our team went with him. I don't remember the last time one of our CB's got his head on the ball in the opposition box, in fact it's rare any player does. We have one of the highest stats for heading when defending which is even more of a piss off!

I think we miss Huth an awful lot when we get a corner.

That tackle should have been a red card meaning that Kuntman would have never been on the pitch to score the free kick that knocked us out of qualifying for the world cup USA (i think it was)

That's just comical! We're physical and direct... long balls looking for second balls from Crouch?? If that's the extent of their scouting then I'd say we might spring a surprise or two on them tomorrow.

If that's the extent of their scouting then I'd say we might spring a surprise or two on them tomorrow. I certainly hope we do, imagine the excuses being trotted out on Match of the Day. They'll have to bring out the Cliché-bot "Stoke were simply too powerful for Southampton" "Stoke did well but Southampton were very poor" "Southampton didn't really get the rub of the green from the ref today" "Southampton couldn't deal with Stoke's long ball" "Rory Delap's long throw" "On another day, Southampton turn up and win three nil" "The game changing decision came when <<Insert Stoke Player Here>> wasn't sent off" "Stoke dug in and the number of silly free kicks stopped Southampton playing their Barcelona-esque football" "Crouch was very lucky not to give away a free kick there" "Shawcross was very lucky not to give away a penalty there" "There's definitely a tug as he goes down in the box, should have been a penalty to Southampton" "Stoke did okay to get the three points, but Southampton were very poor" Rinse and repeat...

Ryan basically can't go near anyone in the box at corners, such as a the media campaign.

For the next few games at least, he needs to be the free man attacking the ball and leave Crouch to mark. Referees and media will be all over him tomorrow so best not give them an excuse.

Bollocks to him. As long as we put our paciest player up against Ken Monkou and keep Le Tissier quiet I think we could do it. Need to attack Francis Benali and Jason Dodd out wide they're definitely the Southampton weak links. I'm confident we can come away from The Dell with 3 points though.....

We have reverted back to a lot of long ball tbf, and why not when it suits us.
Don't fancy us to get anything down there if truth be told but if Diouf and Moses start then we're in with a chance of scoring a couple.

I understand the RMS Titanic is due to sail from Southampton in 1912, and 80 percent of the crew are Sotonians. I hope that goes well for them.

For what it's worth we are 10th on the long balls per game table so far with 64 and Southampton are 6th with 70 and we are joint bottom on the set pieces table with zero, but apart from that you'd have to say his analysis is bang on the money.
