If Geoff plays as well as he did the other night then we can afford to move Wilson to right back and bring in another centre back, because he'll give them a lot of protection.

Interesting set up in training yesterday with Muni at LB , Pieters and Shawcross at CB and Wilson at RB Interesting is a good or a bad way?

I'd like to see:
Begovic Cameron - Shawcross - Wilson - Pieters Adam - N'zonzi Diouf - Bojan - Moses Crouch

I'd like to see: Begovic Cameron - Shawcross - Wilson - Pieters Adam - N'zonzi Diouf - Bojan - Moses Crouch And who's going to protect the centre backs? We were all over the place in the first half last week.

True, we were, but playing away at Soton we won't be approaching the game by trying to hold possesion. We're going to sit tight and try to hit them on the break, with Adam and Nzonzi lying really deep. Bojan, Moses and Diouf are obviously going to have to work 'aaard as well when we're defending, but they will also provide us with immense direct pace going forward when possible.
That being said, I am very confident that the starting eleven will not look like my suggestion when the game kicks off tommorow. With Bards out, I believe Sparky will give Huth a chance along with Shawcross, and relocating Wilson to the right back spot. Thus making space for Cameron to play in midfield along with N'zonzi, Adam, Diouf and Moses.

The problem is there's only really Whelan who enjoys doing the dirty, selfless stuff. Everyone else would much rather be off gallivanting further up field doing crazy stuff like shooting and trying to beat a man.
Hughes sounded pretty surprised at how well Cameron played on Sunday - and sounded pretty intent on giving him the chance to nail down the place in Whelan's absence.
But (if Bardsley is ruled out) the most obvious thing for tomorrow would seem to be playing your number two RB at RB - and then give the midfielder you bought in the summer some actual game time so he doesn't lose complete interest and you're forced to write him off completely.
If Huth's fit, the option of playing him, moving Wilson to RB and playing Geoff in midfield is attractive, but I can't see him going for it (especially if Huth isn't 100%).
How Muniesa stands in his CB thoughts these days, who knows?

After watching sparky's press conference I believe geoff is going to get another chance in midfield. I think bardsley will get the start at rb, and if not, Wilson or muniesa. I thought geoff did well last year at rb, but it sounds as if he is really focused on playing centrally in training and in his practice games. Southampton away will be a tough test for him; their midfield is really good.

Last Saturday showed one thing conclusively. In a 433, you play a holding midfielder and then you pick the rest if the team. It doesn't work otherwise. Zonz is not capable of playing that role and the structure of the midfield was totally incoherent.
So with Whelan out, who is the natural fit? It isn't sidwell. He is definitely david platt and we need ince or batty. The best we have is Cameron in my opinion. Wilson to RB and Huth at CB if fit. If not, muni, who was brilliant at CB last time I saw h against Fulham.
Adam and Zonz to play their natural roles in CAM.
