Me and the other half both born in north staffs hospital but my passport says Newcastle under Lyme as place of birth which is correct, but the mrs says stoke on Trent. If your were born at north staffs are you born in stoke or Newcastle according to your passport?

She's right. I was born there and for the purposes of your birth certificate your passport should say the same. I incorrectly put Newcastle under Lyme on my passport application without checking my birth certificate and have had to stick with it. It states on my birth certificate 'Stoke on Trent'.

The hospital is in S-o-T. The boundary runs roughly up The Avenue to just north/east? of Lancaster Road and then turns north to The Greyhound on Hartshill Road. How "anoraky" is that?

My Street near to the Hospital was in Stoke on Trent till 1974. Then the boundaries of counties, cities changed under a reorganisation and it ended up in Newcastle u Lyme. Maybe part of the Hospital was in Newcastle prior to 1974.

The North Staffs Royal Infirmary and the now University Hospital of North Staffordshire were/are both in Stoke-on-Trent. The Boundary between S-o-T and Newcastle runs up the A34. Lyme Valley side is Newcastle, t'other side of the dual carriageway is Stoke-upon-Trent.
The Fanny Deakin's Maternity Home was was indeed in Newcastle, down in Chesterton. Great woman was Owd Fanny. Worth a look up for a bit of local history. Fanny's mat ward has been closed since the 1970/80's ???? (not exactly sure when).

I believe Lyme Brook is the official boundary on the Newcastle side of the A34. So S-o-T is on both sides of the A34 up to the hospital area,(where they have the "Welcome to" N-U-L Borough sign on the A34 - Lyme Valley Parkway??). after which the west side of the A34 is all Newcastle territory. So, the Orange Tree Bar & Grill on the corner of Clayton Lane is in S-o-T but Newcastle and Hartshill CC is in N-u-L. p.s. my passport says I was born in Stoke on Trent.
