Nothing, but Muniesa had a decent game against Sunderland in the cup and clearly Hughes thinks he did enough to deserve a chance, I'm hoping Pieters gets back in though for the next game.

Muniesa had a shocker at Sunderland but my opinion of him remains the same.
He's too good and has too much ability not to be in our side.
Sadly, the same is also true of Pieters who has been a superb signing.
Pieters at left back with Muniesa being given a chance at centre half (if Huth isn't deemed ready for regular first team football) or preferably, when the opportunity arises, in midfield where I think he would be a revelation.

Erik doesn't deserve to be out of the team at all and he's a better defender than Muniesa.
I can understand Hughes's thinking after Marc had a good game but realistically that was a freak performance: you don't expect your left back to score a brace and that's not why you select them.
Muniesa is a very talented player and an excellent prospect but I honestly don't see where he could feature in our team unless MH persists in not picking Huth over Wilson for one reason or another.

Muni will be a fantastic player for us, given time and chances. I'd give him a few games as a defensive midfielder, he can see and make passes, plus if he has a lapse then we have 4 defenders behind him.

MH will bring Erik back for the Swansea game.We need to defend properly against Swansea & Muni isn't as good as Erik in that dept.

I said at the time, just before he was dropped, that it was coming and it was harsh. I'm not quite sure where else I'd play Muniesa though.
I don't fancy him one bit at centre half and the calls for a midfield place are based on total guesswork based on some of the attributes he's shown. In truth though we wouldn't drop anyone out of the midfield for him, and neither should we.

I agree jamo but I'm struggling with it because Muni does have talent to be in somewhere. It feels like we are wasting a talent even though when we sit down and analyse it we can't really put him anywhere. Weird! Edit. He has such a fantastic attitude to the game and the club that also needs mentioning...

I'm sure his time will come but I don't think it's here at the minute.

What has he actually done wrong to lose his place to muniesa atm. Nothing. Pieters was rested to give Muniesa a game in the Capital Cup and he took his opportunity with 2 goals. But his defending is not up to Prem. standards. I believe MH kept him in because Stoke need to score more goals and he offered another opportunity, with players out injured. Pieters at LB for me.

It was good management, sending the right message to Muniesa and the rest of the squad that you can force your way into the team.
To not pick Erik on Sunday will be bad management.

For me this is absolutely ridiculous as I see Pieters as a much better fullback than Muniesa! Muniesa is a good player, but he isn't even close to Pieters in my estimation as a fullback (way too slow)! Bring Pieters back to the first 11 Sparky! I would have loved to see Muniesa tried in a central midfield role, but I'm not sure Whelan deserves to be left out! Anyway I think both Muniesa and Cameron have potential in that role!

Yeah totally agree. Think it was absolutely the right decision to bring him in for a couple of games as reward for his performances in cup games. We saw enough of players playing well and not being selected under the Pulis regime. Hughes did the right thing and deserves credit for it although you would imagine Pieters is set to come back in against Swansea.

In my opinion at this stage of his career Muniesa should be utilized as a utility player but to be honest I don't see him as one of the starting 11. Pieters is a stronger defender and if anyone was to be dropped from central midfield I'd only do this to give Geoff a chance as I can really see him as a midfield dynamo strong defending, very athletic and good going forward

Healthy competition for places. We have two good left backs. What's not to love?

He'll be back in the squad on Sunday, he didn't do anything wrong instead Hughes did something right! We have a squad right now that's picked on merit and Muniesa scored a brace from left-back, if that doesn't get you a shoe-in into the first team then there's something wrong... When your side loses 3-1 you have the right to shake things up and my guess would be Hughes will bring back Pieters

We don't need to star messing about with the defensive midfielder though the one we've got is doing a great job, and has been for some time.
