Now that we've played quite a few games, what are your thoughts about the other teams whom we should consider to be our contenders? Whilst there are definitely much weaker teams than us - qpr and Burnley being the obvious ones - there are others which have made considerable improvement eg west ham. As I see it - given the points which we have already dropped - it's not going to be easy to retain our 9th place position and believe that the objective should be to strive for safety as early as possible and give it our best shot in the cups. Of the teams which finished behind us last year in all honesty I can't see us finishing above any if hull, Swansea and west ham

We won't finish in the Top 10. Everything else is up in the air atm.
We will regress for sure.

what worries me is the amount of points squandered against teams we should be picking up points from , with the exception of man c we havent played any really tough fixtures yet

Hopefully time and injuries will take their toll on some squads but in terms of starting elevens right now there are very few teams I would back us to beat with any degree of comfort. Our inability to bury QPR was quite significant.

I am not sure why there are so many comments to the effect of '...just a bad day at the office...' - we've had three already and two of those were at home against sides we should/needed to get something from - even two draws would have sufficed. It isn't being irrational to suggest that we are on the cusp of being entrenched in a long fight against relegation. We need to start getting a run of results ASAP.

I think we have fucked this season up already.
I wish we could just take the 40 points, rub it, and start again.

We won't be anywhere near the top 10. I think we'll be somewhere around 14th. However a cup run or two will deflect any criticism of our league slump. We do need to start turning the high percentage of possession into points though.

Burnley and QPR look like they've got 2 of the 3 places for relegation with all the rest (apart from the top 7) in it. All the other teams have looked inconsistent like us, I doubt very highly we'll finish in the top 10 but then again we weren't great in the first half of last season and look where we finished!

Too early to say for me. I really don't see an awful amount of difference between the start of this season and the last. In fact, performances this season are perhaps better. We were still in the cup, as we are now, but our performance against Birmingham was a sorry spectacle compared to our game at the the Stadium of Light. This time last year we'd just lost to Fulham (relegated) in a drab game, but this season we have drawn to a QPR side we so nearly beat and who are also clearly doomed. We only drew to Manchester City at home (though we maybe should have won), and we have beaten them away this season (still can't believe it). Norwich had beaten us at home and we were much less convincing in that game than we were against Leicester. We beat a shocking Palace side at home last season, like we beat a shocking Newcastle on Monday. We did beat a shocking West Ham away, and this season we drew to a fairly decent Hull side away from home. There was also away defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal, which don't really have immediate comparisons as of yet.
Honestly, just wait until Christmas and see where we are. If I had said to you we'd get 9th after those results last season what would you have said? There are so many games left to play, we have a few injuries and a few under-performers but honestly you'd think we were getting battered every week with some of the message on here tonight. Its football, brighten up!
