Phew, that's the monkey off our back... fine with the starting XI, the subs were forced and tg Arnie worked really well, lots to feel positive about but... for me that wasn't convincing tonight, there's something we're not doing, not getting the mindset right to boss games at home. But this is where the confidence starts to build, hopefully.
Just about 8* from me

8* good performance. If only Arnie had scored that one that hit the post.

Sound starting lineup, points added for giving Muniesa a start. Substitutes were fine too. Just needs to work on taking those chances when they're presented.

8 from me team selection was correct (apart from I would of liked to see the return of Das Panzer)..... tons of chances once again should of been out of site.

We still give the ball away far too cheaply? Needs sorting. We nearly blew that match!

Picked a justifiable team , right subs ( although slightly forced ) , a strange game in a way full of contradictions , sloppy in possession , classy in possession , Pleasing in one hand very frustrating in another , we could of easily thrown points away again

The thing for me is that Hughes should crack a few heads together and say to the guys "you ARE playing some good football AND IF you can make those final killer balls and take advantage of the "3 on 2" or the '2 on1" situations we're creating, we can really do something this season. You ARE that good so BELIEVE in yourselves"
I counted 3 clear "man extra" situations last night where if we played the right ball, the scoring opportunity just became a whole lot easier. We gnawsed it up obviuosly, but we're creating those situations now which is pleasing.
Is there a case for Bojan to get more involved now? Would he be able to "pick the killer pass"...?

Picked Muniesa, persisting with Diouf, gave Arnie his chance which he took (bar the near miss). 9 for me.

Good starting line up, but could have gone with Bojan rather than Arnie when Diouf went off. I reckon he would have done better with the two chances Crouch had later in the game.
If anything, some players could have performed better and with a bit more luck (and the pen) we could have had 2 or 3 more goals.

The Adam that played last night gave us no edge at all. I'm assuming he was injured from his early knock as there's no other explanation for his performance. He's far too slow for the Premiership which puts pressure on us once the opposition have drifted past him. I'm not convinced by Ireland either but he possesses a little more craft in the right areas for how we currently play.

8 for me.
Right decision to bring Ireland on, tactics were spot on and had we showed more cutting edge we could have really exploited the gaps behind the Geordie back line.

8 for me as we won. Adam vanished for most of the game and should have been replaced sooner.Assaidi no where near fit and offered little.

8* from me. Can't really argue with the starting line up, although I thought Ireland looked more involved than Adam when he replaced him. The injury to Diouf was a blow. Arnie or Bojan were the obvious replacements and I thought Arnie played well enough to justify his inclusion. He's not yet back to his best of last season - but on the evidence of last night he is getting there.
More work needed on the training pitch to get the team to the point where it capitalises on the chances it creates - but with a decent ref we'd still have won at a canter despite missing a few opportunities.

8 for me I was glad to see Adam playing he gives us a bit of edge. I thought we lost it when he went off 8* I think Adam played pretty well and was perhaps overshadowed by other better performances. He always looks unfit though and was struggling in the second half. Ireland was the right sub at the right time. Glad Hughes is persisting with Arnie. Besides being entertaining to watch, I think he put a real shift in. He does appear a bit erratic sometimes but the lad has real class and swagger and was close to scoring. Thought Muni played well and Hughes must be struggling to choose between his Left back options (which is no bad thing of course).
